Finally online. Was at work in Brookfield, in a trucking depot. Concrete bunker with tractor trailer sized doors down all the walls. Most of them open when the storm hit. Was .... interesting to see boxes lifting straight up into the air. I just hung close to my tractor trailer - what safer than a tractor trailer inside a concrete bunker? LOL, was absolutely crazy. Went outside later & trees down & tree tops gone, & roof top units laying in the yard - from some other building somewhere!

Couldn't get out to go home until 10:30pm - roads all closed.

Home in Danbury = electricity, no internet, & a couple of branches in the back yard. And the next day off from work. or two...
And my neighbors thought I was off when I cut down all the trees within falling on the house distance.

Glad everyone is okay.

Morning everyone. Apparently work lost power yesterday after 5, so I couldn't even remote log in to catch up on the shit show of emails yesterday form being out. I think they still don't have power because I still can't remote log in this morning.

Our text alert for work said they were going to send out an update by 7. I hate being behind and having to play catch up. My OCD is fucking killing me right now about this shit.

Stayed at my parents house again last night. Danbury closed school yesterday for today. Brookfield obviously no school because of the disaster that it is.

 

Doing computer work in Danbury, going to Brookfield to pull inventory, back to Danbury to pack & ship. Wonder if UPS will be running today, so far only USPS & FedEx, UPS took a direct hit & is in the middle of black out. Will be an interesting day, but the phones are charged up. Happy... whatever day it is!

 

Oddly enough, the package I was expecting to arrive tomorrow is now scheduled to arrive today! I guess USPS and FedEx are Thunder Buddies?

 

Morning everyone. Happy Friday. It's been a shit show here lately. Office was closed yesterday because they lost power after 5pm the day before. I wasn't able to get onto the server remotely since, so got a hold of the IT guy yesterday morning, walked me through some steps and I got on. They I got off and couldn't get back on. He couldn't figure out why. Gave up trying at around 11am. Went to my house to turn on the generator for a couple hours because of the fridges. Luckily my internet works whenever I have power. Somehow magically I was able to get onto the work server, and did some work.

As of last night, work still didn't have power, so supposed to get an update by 7am today.

It's been a crazy week to say the least.

 

No power at work or at my house......... trying to keep it together lol

 

I hear that. I don't even know when I'll get power back at my house.

 

I hope everyone made it through the storm with minimal damage and more importantly safely. I lost a few trees here in newtown and will probably be on generator power for a few more days. No big deal as I always keep enough supplies on the ready. The area around my parents condo in Brookfield looks like a war zone (as cantivelense has said). I finally found a way in to check on them after the fifth route.

 

Talked to a couple of my former co-workers this morning. They said the damage is extensive . Still many broken poles that need replacing and miles of downed primaries. It's going to be a while.

 

Yeah... it's really bad out here. It's going to take a while to replace those poles, and clean up the roads too.

 

These guys are working 14+ hour days and are getting burned out already.
I've been to that show a bunch of times and in less than a week ,you totally lose track of time and change into zombie mode.

 

Yeah... I bet. I hope they rotate them in and out so people get a break and don't burn out, or tire out. Especially doing the type of work they do... it can get dangerous real fast.

 

You have to pay attention as everything is under tension.
If you lose focus, you can get messed up real bad.
Used to freak out when I was in the bucket and hear/feel shit cracking and popping.

 

I bet. I'd freak out too. That type of work is no joke.

During the early 60s we still had 2 party , 4 party lines. wasn't to bad if you shared with a person that didn't hog the line. But it wasn't always so. Also the operators had to make the long distance connections using a cord board in the Central Office. No direct dialing in those days. No 911, just call the operator.

They still had a few into the early 90's. Couldn't make people get rid of them until Enhanced 911 came out.
