I've had my tacoma for almost a year now and it's time we start getting better acquainted. She's got some miles on her and i know i need work done coming up, like shocks and struts. In bad news, i got broken into while backpacking and the jerks slashed a tire. Full size spare to the rescue, but it doesn't match. I know with the shocks and struts it's good to replace tires at the same time and then do alignment, or at least that's what i've been told. Do i snag some craigslist tires in the meantime? Is my mismatched spare going to wreck things that aren't broken yet? I'm not an experienced mechanic but i'd like to do as much as i can myself so i can afford to keep her on the road.

    Welcome,
Sorry to hear of the thievery , when you say mismatch in what way? Size or just type? Size will throw off your alignment a little and cause more wear on the other tires, if your not going to be riding it a long time it should not be bad and will not break anything. I have replaced shocks, struts and springs on a vehicle with out replacing the tires just rotated them it would still align and track right.
