So I'm having an issue, my truck is a cobalt blue Pearl 1995.5 Tacoma single cab, 2.7 5 speed 4x4. The issue is that as I'm driving, in a certain rpm range it starts spitting and spuddering. It's a base model truck so not tach, but I could assume it's around 2000 rpm, and it only does it while I'm driving, free reving is not effected. If I floor it as it starts spitting around, it seems to get a bit better, but not alot, I'll list what I have replaced so far...

    New fuel pump
    New fuel filter
    New plugs
    New wire set
    New dizzy cap and rotor
    New ignition coil
    New tps
    New Mass air flow
And some other things I'm not remembering right this minute. I have taken the distributor apart and have found what looks like the resistor is melted? I'm not really savy with distributors, but the one wire coming out of the resistor should be to the ground? Or the 12 volt? Any info to help me fix this would be great! Thanks guys.

Here is a picture of the resistor.

Have you tried any fuel additive injector cleaner? Sounds like if it's under load you have an issue it could be related to not enough fuel.

    Welcome to TW also

Ive actually added a bit of ether spray to it via long vacuum hose while driving, I thought the same thing about fuel. As it spits and spuddering I'll add the spray and it does nothing. Continues having it's problem. Have any idea about the resistor I mentioned?

Thanks for the invite btw, I'm happy to be here! I've heard alot of good things about tw

Unfortunately I can't direct you on the resistor part. Although I'm sure someone will know what's up. Try googling 2.7 sputtering it brings up some threads over on yota tech and other sites, might give some insight

I'm sure there is a thread here on it. I'll see if I can dig it up

If you still have an issue with this the part is not a resistor but a capacitor used to cancel the electrical noise caused by ignition. It should be between +12V and ground. My electrical diagram shows Brown wire to ground, Black/red to +12V.

BTW deleting the whole thread is an ass thing to do on the forum. Not sure it moderator did it or OP but either way it is just like saying "F-you" to all posters. My 2 cents.

I haven't deleted anything. So please do some research before assuming stuff.

I did not assume anything. "Not sure it moderator did it or OP" - this is as much as I can find out, but pisses me off every time.

Similar thing happened on 4Runner forum and because OP was pissed off so he deleted 5 pages thread he started. With on click deleting tons of good info wrote by respondents.

If moderator did that it was him saying "F-you", otherwise threads don't disappear on its own. The you should complain, I would.

How is the stuff with your ignition?

I have no clue who deleted it, I assume tcbob, but I don't know. Shortly after that I got an inbox from him tho. So he was pretty active about the issue, which I appreciate. The post was about nothing but everyone bitching about how I shouldn't ask for a decal. So you didn't miss much on that one. Wasn't really any good info on the subject.

And about the ignition, I ended up replacing the whole distributor and it runs perfect now. I assume it was the pick up on the inside of it that Toyota told me was part of the distributior. So I bought a new one and stuck it on and issue gone! I've done quite a bit of work on it since then, it's coming together nicely!

I did not care about bitching, I was hoping to find more info about the decals. I did not know they existed and was very curious what they look like. I like TW as it is full of good people and great amount of info (I'm trying to do my share too :)). And I got pissed when the source just disappeared. F-ing Houdini. Then searching for it I found this thread

I'm glad it worked. I was curious if faulty capacitor can screw up ignition or even computer.

Thankfully it didn't hurt anything on the outside of the distributior, I took the chance with one of the el-cheepo ones from eBay for like 50 bucks, to see if it was my issue. It seems that it was lol
