I’m on it! However my 19 Limited Edition has a howling rear end that dealer deems normal. Love the truck,Toyota and the Dealerships gonna have to resolve this issue.

If you hit the quote button in the bottom right, it'll tag me. For what it's worth, my rear end howls too, I still set the cruise at 80 and let the engine scream at 5500rpm. Welcome to tw.

Welcome to tw... there is a tsb for it, not sure it applies to your truck, sometimes it will get quiet itself a little after break in. Some do a lot of sound proofing on the back wall and floor. Good luck, but it is normal.

Yeah, I’ve been doing some research and have seen a lot of posts. I’ve even read about the “harmonic” theory. It’s tough to take off on a 1000 mile round trip and put the howling noise in the back of my mind when it’s so loud. I have a strong mechanical background and the howling noise is scary. I’m sure I’ll get through it, just expected more from Toyota ( Been driving GM for some years). Once again thank you for the feedback.

I too came from GM trucks and expected much better from Toyota, given their reputation. Many things i assumed were issues that are “normal” - like lots of wind noise, rear diff howl, rattling shift linkage, loose headlights, stumble around 1500rpm, etc etc

My brother-in-law is an engineer, he suspects the interns designed it. I’m betting they don’t even have an NVH department

I’m stuck with it for now, so i just treat it like the clunker it is and beat the fuck out of it off-road — the one place it truly shines

The howl is the one and only thing that irritates me with this truck, but it is livable, especially knowing that there is nothing *wrong* with the differential. Lately, whenever I'm out on the highway, I've been purposefully driving right at 56 mph (the speed at which the howl is loudest) to try and desensitize myself to it. Going to keep doing it for a while.

It’s normal, people have it even after regearing their trucks.

Most 3rd Gen owners have the howling noise in their head.

And look like this after a shower.
