I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
I take points off for proprietary screws. That's not a plus in my book. It's just another thing I need to buy. I don't even like the torx screws that Benchmade uses but at least they're common.

Most of the service is done for free at the factory. With all the OTF's you void the warranty opening them. Not that it has stopped me. For the average joe, you can soak them in a parts cleaner fully covered. Rinse out with distilled water then re lube with a quality oil. in-between all steps, dry with compressed air until you re lube.

Only times i disassemble is when i am just bored and want to. There was one time in 09' when i had to replace a spring. 'The started using a different, better quality version since then. Could have sent it in, was quicker for them to ship to me due to my grave plans.

I'm OK with the Torx. The proprietary screws are dumb-there's really no need or advantage to that.

it was originally done to thwart clones. Then it just became a neat design aspect in my opinion. I like them .

Started making my own Kydex sheaths last week. This was my first one. I wanted to turn my Helle into a neck knife instead of using that belt sheath it came with. I always carry scout style, but the Helle is so light I figured it would be light enough to go in a neck sheath.

Used .128 Kydex in a press and it came out pretty good IMO for my first sheath. I need a new belt for my sander to finish removing some of the material outside of the eyelets, but it grips the knife nice and snug but is flexible enough that it pops in and out without wearing on the curly birch handle. Put a ferro rod holder on it as well. Let me know what you think.

Awe damn. That is good! Very good. Does that Helle knock a pretty good spark off that ferro?

Well, it puts off a good spark but it's not carbon steel so it could always be better. I got the Fossekallen for less than $70 on an Amazon steal of a deal, but the carbon steel model they offer is $160+. I'll stick to carrying a cheap striker and not mess up the Helle blade.

    Thanks bud.

Hmmm... hadn't thought that far ahead yet. Let me get good at more styles of knives and I may revisit this thought. What you looking at having done?

Appreciate the compliment. I'll take another pic once I take the time to clean this one up a little tighter. I can probably grind another ounce or so of material off of it.

My first attempt with .080 kydex on a large blade (my Ka-Bar combat kukri) had a different outcome. I've learned a lot since this sheath. Working with the thicker stuff means more time under the heat, and a quick set in the press. Plus I didn't tape the blade so it came out really snug and I had to do some tweaks with the heat gun. I also set the eyelets a bit far away from where the blade socket goes, so the next one will be much leaner and cleaner.

I thought the carbon fiber texture was pretty cool, but I just wanted a tan sheath to match my pack and the carbon fiber was the only option at the time I was buying kydex.

I used a Blade Tek molle attachment so I can throw this on my bug out bag very quickly. The Blade Tek also doubles as a belt loop so I can take it off the pack and clip it on my belt and carry at at a 45 degree angle. That part I was happy with.

The next one will be leaner and meaner, and the blade will go in and out much better. This one is really snug but it still does the job and I'll keep using it until I replace it with a better-made sheath.

I have a BK14 I want a scout style kydex sheath for with a TekLok. Your Blade Tek thing sounds interesting, though. I also have a Fallkniven F1 that could use the same treatment..

I'll wait until you're interested! I don't have the fun money ATM for sheaths.

So I put the Helle sheath back on the sander and took of the extra material and just gave it a clean-up. Also switched ferro rods for this new one which is much lighter/compact, and looks slick. Ran my lanyard cord through the top eyelet of it. This way I'll never lose the little striker it comes with. Slick little ferro rod should get about 1000 strikes. One end unscrews and has a handle with the rod, the other end unscrews to reveal the little carbon steel striker with handle. All is waterproof because there are little gaskets above the threads.

The whole setup got lighter and more compact, making it a better neck knife setup now.

I have a plan for some stand-off Kydex attachments so a tek-lok can be installed closer to the centerline of the knife/sheath, similar to how you would do it for the BK2 using the stand-off that holds the stock nylon belt loop. I have a BK2 and am happy enough with the sheath after the tek-lok mod that I won't be making my own for it, but it gave me a good plan for doing other larger knives and having a tek-lok in a better location than being offset. That's probably what I'm going to build for the 2nd version of the kukri sheath.

    Which would you choose?

I've looked through quite a few knives and these are pretty much my two favorites for a decent price. The stainless Bowie comes with a nylon sheath and the damascus comes with a leather sheath.

Thank you for your input, i think the one that looks like damascus said its made in pakistan(probably same quality as china..) I'm a noob when it comes to knives, could you guys point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

no specific use.. just to have/fuck around with/self defense from animals (hiking/camping) and such haha. I just want a decent full tang knife.
