How ya like that Ken Onion? Use it much? Skinning?

 

Could stick it in an orange overnight also, but I bet he wants to earn a patina and not force a patina. Not on that knife anyway,

 

The orange is a Boker Kwaiken with the flipper mod.

Green and Yellow is a Sascha Dunkhorst mini friction cleaver.

And a Trouble Blades Debt Collector neck knife.

All are carried everyday depending on what I'm doing.

 

Thanks. Yes exactly. Just going to use the knife and let the thing tarnish with use. Almost pushed it thru the head of a lobster today. But the bugger was not that fresh and kicking. I passed.

 

Haven't used it yet, just picked it up a few weeks ago. Its got a good weight, cleaver \ skinner in one

 

My daily carrier, had this one about a year now and I'm happy with it. It's a Ken Onion design as well

 

I saw one in Kerrville awhile back. Almost got it.

Mine is the fixed blade version. Very well made knife, very sharp. They market it as a "tactical cleaver". I finally skinned a pig with it last week and it worked great!

 

Received the GEC #15 ebony sheepsfoot yesterday. Smaller frame than the #77 I've been carrying, above. I like capped end knives, but I might add an easy open notch to the 15 just for something different.

My buddy has one, he handed me a knife the other day that was wicked sharp off of that thing. I'm kinda a nerd when it comes to sharp knives and I was really impressed.

 

I have the non Ken onion WSKS. I use it on all my knives. From my $40 kitchen chef knife, to my $250 Zero Tolerance and Spyderco knives.

My advice:

The 80 grit belt lasts around 10 4 inch knives sharpens worth

The 600 grit belt lasts around 5 4 inch knives sharpens worth

Buy a lot of the 6000 grit belts. They only last around 2-3 knives worth, or around 20-30 passes on each side.

Don't keep using worn abrasive belts. They'll only make your knife duller and you more frustrated.

Buy an abrasive belt cleaner. It will help the belts last longer. Use it in between sharpenings of each knife.

PRACTICE first on some cheapo kitchen knives. You'll probably get some excess wear on the edge towards the hilt since that is where you'll start your passes first so the belt makes contact with that part of the knife edge the longest. Practice to not have uneven sharpening and have what I previously said happen to your high $$$ knives.

Use the 20 degree guide on thinner knives. Use the 25 degree guide on thicker blades. Don't try and use a 20 degree guide on a blade that is 3/16 or more inches in thickness. It won't work since the guide is too narrow for the thicknesss of the blade. If you have a very thick blade, think ZT or BK9, possibly free handing it is best.

I can pass my spyderco military and my benchmade griptilians through the 20 degree guide no problem. I need to use the 25 degree guide on my Zero Tolerance blades, Benchmade Adamas, and the thicker Kabar's like the BK5,7,9.

I like using the WSKS because it's very fast, but you won't get a mirror edge or sharper than office paper slicing sharp.

If you want to push cut or even slice through newsprint paper sharp, spend the $300 and get an edge pro apex sharpener. That will be my next sharpener purchase once I out grow my WSKS.

Cut an easy open notch in my GEC 77 today.

 

Looks like a mill or drill bit. Great idea and it looks great on the GEC.
