Yup. $60 was cheap. Wood handled versions are about $35.

That is a super interesting design on the kydex sheath for the Ka-Bar. I know the factory sheath is similar (I have one as well), but yours is quite different. Was the lower swoop an aesthetic choice or do you find it more efficient that way? @Seabass

How's the fit and finish on that one? Do you know if it's a recent production? Supposed to be much better finish on the new/newer builds than the Condor of old.

Just a FYI.. Baryonyx Knife is a great place for Condor knives, he sells "Grade B" items (Condor has more than a few...) that have uneven grinds, tangs that sit proud of scales, etc,. for a discount. Few minutes on a grinder or if you're more inclined to personalize the knife, it offers a good bargain. The owner is named Benjamin and he's a one man show, small business running out of Maine. Highly recommend his shaving soaps as well.

Yea. That guys offers a hand picked by him option for a few bucks. I think.

    I like the Kephart shape.

They're all hand picked.. but he does a "special grade" option for a couple dollars where he refines the edges and makes the knife received pretty much flawless when received.

Glad you know of him already! I'm also a big fan of USAMadeBlade! Same story with him, one man shop and an American owned small business, selling American made knives.

I hate nylon sheaths, so I wanted something more robust and that I could attach a Tek-Lok to for belt/pack attachment. I don't like belt loop sheaths. Not sure what exactly you mean by the lower swoop, but the swoop by the tip helps hold the knife in snug. The clip down by the handle makes for easy placement back into the sheath plus those flared flaps give me a place to put my thumb so I can pry it open and extract with one hand. It really locks in nice, so I can hang it upside down on a pack if I want. It's very lightweight, too. The tan pseudo carbon fiber was chosen over black so that it would blend better with my packs which are mostly coyote, dry earth, or foliage.

Edit: I think I know what you mean now about the lower swoop. I cut it lower like that because I was trying to minimize weight while still keeping structural integrity. At first I didn't grind it down that low, and it covered more of the blade. More and more passes on the belt sander allowed me to remove another couple ounces all around the sheath. Every bit counts when it's on the pack, plus the swoop just looks cool.

You know, I'm pretty pleased with the fit/finish. The scales contour perfectly with the blade seamlessly. The grind on the blade is done quite well for mass production, and I really like the satin blasted finish instead of a coating. The only thing that takes away from this looking like a top-line knife is the low quality scribing on the blade itself. I don't care if my knife says "El Salvador", but it isn't laser-quality scribing. Clean that up a bit, and they've got a solid knife. Great thickness for durability when batoning, and weight for chopping.

yesterday, i used my (hate to say it) BUSHCRAFT type knives to do all my kitchen cooking work. less than ideal. barely ideal. but damn fun!! dicing onions was a bitch with the wedge of the bevels. but it got it done.

i used my Adventure Sworn Explorer and Helle Tamagami. shucking corn, the onions, dicing herbs. and yes, i cut butter with just about the sharpest edge ever in that Temagami. will i do it again? yes, but i better be campfire side. in the kitchen, there are better options.

Scandinavian grinds, particularly on thicker stock are a pain in the kitchen. But I use my Mora anyway, it's sometimes easier than my favorite field knife - Fällkniven F1.

Just ordered this, got a deal on Amazon. Has a nice leather sheath as well. It pretty solid with good balanced weight. Blade is thick, and has a nice edge. The curve of the blade makes it awkward to place in sheath though. It's going to be a field knife for me. I have lots of little blades, but needed something bigger. Will be trying this in the yard this weekend.
