Nice! One of those stays strapped to my hunting pack. I stripped the coating off the blade though.

I had held Esees before, but after looking at this one and reading a bunch of reviews...this one seemed like a good purchase

Now I'm probably gonna end up with another one...and I gotta figure out where to pick up a kydex sheath

My BK2 is always in the truck. Never know when you need a pry bar or a chopper. Strip that coating off and enjoy. There may even be micarta scales out there for the BK16, but I'm not sure. Adds great traction when hands are wet.

Any particular reason to strip the coating? I'm admittedly slack when it comes to maintaining stuff and if the coating protects a knife that will be stored in my truck toolbox then I need it to stay

Not really, other than aesthetics and it helps cut down on blade friction when slicing into things.

As @DCSBFTMFW Said they wrinkle coating is pretty rough and thick. Having said that, I bought my buddy a BK9 to stick wild boars here and he said it slides in just fine. He loves that knife.

I stripped my BK14, mainly because I wanted to mod it a little and the coating had to go anyway.

There are micarta handles out there, but they're half the price of the knife. The BK16 should have come with black & brown handles if you want to experiment with stippiling on a set.

yup i got both...been considering maybe grooving out the brown set to see how it takes but we'll see

I'm def gonna leave the coating on for now and see how it does and if i feel like it's hindering the use first...then see

I just don't like how it chipped near the blade after some light chopping and use. I like straight lines on my knives, and my OCD kicked in and I didn't like to see the chipped edge of the coating.

Leave it on if you're not spending time oiling your knives or they are in a work box taking abuse. It will prevent rust at least on the coated area.

use marks don't concern me...but rust does...and I KNOW I won't be regularly maintaining the thing because...well...that just aint me

My BK14 was stripped the day I got it and I've never oiled it.

Been sitting in my garage for over a year and still no rust on it. My Woodcrafter has none either and has no coating or oil.

Only carbon steel knife I have that has rust is a Mora.
