True I didn't read back. Fixed blade that actually looks like a perfect do everything knife.

Ill have to find all my knives and take a picture.

I know a local guy he's a extremely good knife maker. We'll i had this idea of making a throwing knife and he got so excited he's been wanting me to come over for some time now. But, our schedules are so conflicting. Anyways, anyone have any good ideas or designs for this? looking to make a functional with handle(maybe paracord?) but throwable as well.
    Sorry if im threadjacking

I was thinking a double sided blade would be nice. I think well make a throwing knife all I have to do is buy the steel. But then I want to make a good sized fixed blade.
I just googled his name for i dont know what reason but he was featured in field and stream.

His knives are a bit pricey but he can do just about anything you'd like. And they are quality. He pays attention to detail. Especially his handles and sheaths. Sheath wont let your knife fall out and another knife of the same style wont fit in it.

Serrations just get in the way. If you maintain a sharp edge, a plain edge can bite into anything serrations would be necessary for on a dull edge.

Serrations just take away from the effective length when battoning

I haven't had a situation in my many years of camping, hiking, work, survival classes, hunting, fishing, etc... where a serrations were necessary.

I believe it all comes down to preference. If you prefer a combo edge, that is with serrations and plain edge, then go for it. Me, personally, serrations are just a PITA and take up more valuable space on a blade. The edge where serrations are is area of highest control when whittling or making feather sticks.

I do own an LMF ii. It is a great knife, with an awesome sheath. It's my backup knife in my truck if I ever forget my BK2.

nice! i been thinking about the bear gryills edition
    x3.
x2. i wont cary one with out. only time i do is the 2 hunting/ skinning knifes me and dad have. don’t need serrations just a very very sharp smooth blade a skinning hook is nice. all you really have to do it cut the skin and brake like 2 or 3 bones, and we have something to do that with as well.

i use my spyderco sharpmaker on the serrations. all mine are scary sharp. i like serrations. but i have knives with both. no denying that if i had to cut a passenger free of a seat belt..serrations would get it done.

i just cut things..i dont worry about serrations zones or no serrations zones..

my next blade will be serration free..since it only comes that way.

Reminds me of the scene is "The Regular Guys" when the Captain takes Will Ferrell's wooden gun and gives him a rape whistle instead. But with a knife like that, you shouldn't need the whistle. :) Cool knife though.

With that BG knife, make sure its a latere production model with a full tang through the handle. Early models tended to snap at the hilt because they lacked a full tang

I deal in knives on ebay, work in a knife shop and collect the Texas Toothpick pattern. Five inch long, closed, long and lean and curves like a Corvette. The original tactical knife, carried since the first decade of the 20th century, by knife fighters, harlem sporting gents, thugs and hoodlums. Also it's close relative, the fishing knife knife. I have three hundred of them.

I always wanted an old Blackjack Broadhead - 12" long, 3/16" spearhead design. If I were making it or having it made, I'd use that pattern with 1/4" stock, something high carbon of course, and push it out to about 14", and about 2" wide at its widest point. Would be a great thrower.

Oh, and I agree with those who say no serrations. I prefer a nice sharp belly for camp chores. If I was deployed and perhaps in a situation where I couldn't sharpen a knife for months I would want serrations because they can rip through stuff when dull. There's always plenty of time to sharpen a blade in camp though, even though I've never really needed to. If you really think you're going to ruin an edge in a single camping trip, go with something like D2 that holds an edge. PITA to resharpen, but once sharp, it'll last.
