This one is my favorite BHK though. The Forest Trail.

O1 is great for a low maintenance steel. I had a D3V knife that I didn't need to sharpen for over a year! That's after batoning fire wood, whittling, and using it for over a year.

Yeah I haven't wrapped my head around that tradeoff yet. Been using O1 for so long the ease of maintenance feels right, but not having to resharpen during the day would be amazing.

O1 is easy to bring back to sharp. Stropping usually does it for me! I sharpen knives on the side too as a hobby and I do it all freehand. I do it for a lot of Bladeforums members and used to do it for all of the local restaurants here in town as well.

Right on! I carry my strop filled with green compound for clean up and if I really need to I'll hit it with a 1200 diamond plate. Free hand is a lot of fun for me, every time I do it I feel like I'm learning.

I would search high and low for a Carothers Field knife if I didn’t already blow my budget on a Gough Resolute.

Nathan just released some Field Knife 2s. They all sold out in like 10 seconds on Bladeforums.

What’s the new price on one of those bad boys?

I got a killer deal on my Resolute on the secondary market. I’ll depreciate it by using it for sure.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
@cubie I appreciate your help allocating that knife. That was very kind of you to do so. Might you be able to point me in a direction for the proper sharpening tools for this bad boy. Just curious what others are using. Would like to learn more on sharpening techniques and such. I got skills in the axe and hatchet arena, but not as much in the finer blades of this steel type.

I use a KME Sharpening system for both my broadheads and knives. Check them out. Very easy system to match a bevel.

DMT make the best diamond sharpening stones out there. They are a little bit pricey, but buy once, cry once and they'll be the only sharpening stones you'll ever need for the rest of your life. Look up DMT Diafold. I suggest Coarse/Fine (Blue/Red). It folds like a butterfly knife, so it's great in the packability department too.

And leather strops to finish up your sharpening process.

I’ve got a whole bunch of old pocket knives from my grandfather but I usually don’t carry those. Over the years I’ve accumulated a few Spyderco and 1 Benchmade, but my EDC are CRKT...and of course an original Leatherman.D8D3A2C0-5C3E-4EF1-A6F5-1E9C7596C0C5.jpg

I’m a huge YouTube guy and after buying my K Bar, I watched a few YT videos on blade sharpening and there is an art to it but I found that Japanese sharpening stones are the best that money can buy. I bought just a beginners sharpening stone and learning my technique but you can definitely spend some money on the fine sharpening stones that will give you a razor sharp mirror finish

What are your thoughts on this kit? For someone who wants to better their skills in manual sharpening. It has the Diafold you mentioned as well.
