Handmade leather sheath arrived today for the BK-18 after weeks of patient waiting. Very pleased. I ordered this from Patriot Leather in Washington state. Giant improvement over the DIY zip tie scout carry attempt on the stock sheath. It worked, just looks like ass.

Thanks. I recommend them for sure. When selecting a product you choose the leather color, stitching color, hardware color, etc. highly customizable stuff.

Their website instructs the use of Obenauf’s heavy duty leather protectant. I gave it a treatment last night.

Bunch of BM clones I got. Besides the Osborne clone, they all feel surprisingly high quality. The Bugout clones are significantly higher rated on the "buy or pass" scale since it feels just as good quality as the original, but with 8cr13mov instead of SV30N.

It’s a euphemism for IPR theft.

I could maybe see calling them clones if it were just a copy of the design, but the packaging, and probably the knives, bear a trademark.

They practically identical, except the blades are made of 8cr13mov instead of S30VN. They’re also not marked up $100 because instead of paying $30 an hour for a qc supervisor that passes misaligned blades, they’re made in China by engineers that make $1 a day.

    Yes

A copy of the design, but with their own original branding is called a homage. Its typical of watches and other fancy things like that.

This is whats called a clone. A fake. Its honestly just as good, except it needs to be sharpened more often and doesnt chip.

No it’s called a forgery. They say 940 Osborne and benchmade bug out. That’s not original branding and should be illegal. That crap is sold on eBay at full price to people that don’t know any better.

I definitely get the terminology; I guess my point was the term “clone” inappropriately euphemizes a crime. It is theft, primarily.

I have a couple Benchmades bought in person at the same shop where I have acquired other wares. How would one verify authenticity of a knife they already own?

Customs and Border Protection would call them counterfeit goods and California would consider them forgeries. Regardless, possession is a crime.

If you google "benchmade counterfeit knives", you'll find this.

What’s the consensus here? I’m too pretty to be jailed on possession of counterfeit goods  and check out the random ‘Winchester’ knife I likely got from an Ohio Walmart way back in high school. Cheap blade but it has held up okay. The Bugout is my EDC/work knife and the Osborne loves in the safe. I’m certain they’re real, this is just a gratuitous pics post. I will say the purple anodizing or whatever treatment is on the spine of the Osborne took a bit to grow on me. I like it now.

Here is a Sharpfinger I got late last year. It’s part of the generational series and is made in the US. Can’t wait to try it out on a deer this year.

I suggested that because if it’s a counterfeit, they’d likely let you know!
