H1 steel will roll instead of chip, and in my experience, it dulls easier than D2, or 154CM. Some of the carbon in H1 steel has been replaced with Nitrogen so that it becomes, according to Spyderco, "corrosion proof". Carbon is needed to make steel harder, so removing carbon makes it softer.

Ed Shempp, designer for Spyderco, said "Spyderco has received pictures of customers whose H1 steel blades have bent to 90 degrees without breaking."
He also said,"If the this blade (Spyderco Warrior made of H1 Steel) went down with the Titanic, and you brought if up today, it will still be as shiny and pristine as if it was new." [Or something of that sorts]

Even Benchmades X15TN corrosion resistant steels in their water knives dull easier also since its a titanium and nitrogen steel alloy.

Just maintain your blade on a sharpmaker or edgepro, and you'll be good to go.

Thanks for the input, if I do go with the pacific salt I'll probably jump on a sharpmaker as well. The reason I'm looking at it in the first place is because I want something a little lighter than my (now rusting) crkt m-21-14 and a little more geared toward edc

Word of advice, Sharpmaker is great for maintaining an edge, not bringing it back from a super dull edge. If you want to make a dull knife sharp again, use an edgepro, then the sharp maker to hone.

If you're willing to spend a bit, I think the Benchmade 940 would be a better option. S30V steel is a super steel with excellent edge retention and the knife itself is 2.8 oz so its super light.

It would be a bitch to sharpen though.

Looks like a great knife but out of my price range unfortunately. I will keep an eye out for knives with S30V but I still want to give the pacific salt a try

I am a sucker for a Benchmade. The good ones are made in Oregon.

The Griptillian H2O (top one) has a fancy pants French steel (X15TN) blade that is super corrosion resistant. It was a gift from my lady to take on my adventures :D. I love her!

The middle one is a Monochrome - it's made in China & has a liner lock. It is barely a Benchmade but it is a decent backup.

The bottom is a Pardue that I carry everyday, everywhere. It is light, thin, sharp, and has Axis lock - overall a great knife.

My Dad's buddy gave me this last week. Anyone ever heard of INOX? or know what the big loop thing is? The guy who gave it to me thought it might be something for helping to tie knots but I dunno...

    you is correct sir...
from Wikipedia; Stainless steel is also known as "inox", short for the French term acier inoxydable.

Edges of the loop are not sharp, could be a puller.
Digging around on the internets I found a similar thing and it was called a knot or rope puller to help untie knots.

Top to bottom, left to right:

    Gerber LMF II
Mora 711 (I think, some of there models get kinda confusing)
    Marttiini M571
    SOG FlashII
    Svord Peasant
    Kershaw 1470 Ken Orion
    Kershaw Skyline
    2x Leatherman Kick
2x Buck lockback kinves (don't know the model)
2x Victorinox Swiss Army knives (don't know the model)

I have yet to find a good use for the LMF. It is stout, but not extraordinarily sharp, and it's size is frequently as much a deterrent to it's use as an asset.

The Mora and Marttiini are exciting finds for me. I have not been out much since picking them up, but the are sharp, light, have reputations for durability. Both the Mora and Marttiini are ridiculously inexpensive (<$16). If these two guys are a good as I hope, I will probably pick up one each for the truck, car, tool box, gun cabinet...where ever.

The folders have all spent time in my pocket for EDC. The SOG is great, but expensive, and I wonder about the assisted-open legality sometimes. The Kersaws are awesome, you just have to shop deals because recommended retail can be high depending on the model.

The Leathermen (how do you make this plural?) are ok. The steel is crap. I cannot keep the blades sharp and have chipped the several times; I just keep grinding new edges on. I used to use them more in college when traveling usually meant in someone else's car. These days, when headed out of doors, I usually pack a pair of pliers, wire cutters, and some other knife. I think I only pack these in hope of loosing them or finally breaking them for good, at least I would have gotten my money out of them.

The Bucks were my fathers, and the Victorinox were my first knives. I still use them, but I have better tools most of the time, and I don't really want to damage them.
