Old guy, new here. Probably tell you more than you want to know but here goes.

I bought my 2000 Tacoma at the end of the model year so it's right at eleven years old. I wanted inexpensive and reliable so I got 4 cyl, 5 speed manual, manual locking hubs and single cab. I knew I was going to keep this truck long term and figured the single cab would never look dated, extended cabs change.

We live near St. Louis on the bluffs above the Mississippi flood plane and our driveway sucks. It's about 75 yards long and gravel. I kick in 4wd every time up, saves tires and driveway. We have about an acre of mostly woods and brush, storms make a mess and without a pickup to move stuff, don't know how we'd have gotten by.

I've mostly driven it locally, only 55,000 miles, the truck is nearly immaculate. The only mods were a K&N air filter and Bushwhacker fender flares. Beyond routine maintenance, my only complaint was the seat belt didn't retract as well as it might. Then finally, a problem recently. The shifter wasn't traveling fully into all gears. Rotten shifter seat, it turns out.

I just put on some new tires and am looking to treat my baby to some new wheels, more to follow. The Tacoma has been so amazingly reliable, I've taken it for granted and am just now finding Tacoma World, looks like a great place!

Favorite Tacoma moment and I wasn't even there -- I ran into Home Depot and left it and the wife at the loading door. She told me an (even) older couple stopped and checked out the Tacoma, not knowing she was there. The man told his wife "That's the perfect little pick up truck". :D

A couple pics from early on, the truck still looks just the same --
