My 05 2.7L manual belonged to my brother in-law.
    It has 244k miles
It sat for about 4 weeks. I tried to crank it a couple of days ago. It turned over normally 2 or 3 times. Then it sounded different and turned slower. It didn't crank. I replaced the starter. No difference. I checked compression the cylinders have about 30 lbs each.
    I appreciate any ideas
I'm glad I found you guys
    Thanks in advance

Something’s wrong, 30 is super low. Check if there’s oil in it. Or a big leak and puddle under it.

You need the engine to spin “fast” to get a decent compression reading.
Was it spinning fast or slow? How is the battery?

It spun slow even with the plugs out. I'll put the charger on lt tomorrow. Oil is good it has a hundred or so miles on the change no leaks. Thank you

This^^^. With what you describe I first check the battery. I hope you checked the battery before you replaced the starter.

Check the voltage on the battery....Do you know when the battery was changed last?

I would have the battery load tested and just not "charge it" as it may TAKE a charge to 12.6 or whatever volts...but not have the oomph (amps) to crank the engine..take the battery to any auto parts store and they can test it for you. Im guessing the low compression is from the slow turn and possible blow by, just my thoughts.

Thank you everyone for sending me in the right direction. I charged the battery and turned the charger on jump. It did the same thing. I thought maybe the battery cable is bad. With the charger on jump I clamped it to the bolt on top of the cable end. It spun over normally. Now I have to clean it all up. Again Thank everyone

Thanks for the update  . Too many people post a question, issue that they are having. But never get back to us as to what the solution was.

Update Thank you for the replies. I had the battery test. It was good. I cleaned the battery terminals. The engine turned over at normal speed. It did not start and acted as if it wouldn't catch up. My guess, the timing was a little off. I got my phone to video this. I turned it over and started. There was a loud rattle. This is the first time I have heard this. Is there anything I should be looking out for. Thanks in advance

How was the battery tested and cleaned? The rattling noise could possibly be the alternator straining to charge the battery.

Start with the cheap stuff first. A digital multimeter is a cheap and essential tool that can help diagnose many electrical issues.
Lots of great people here but don't let anyone tell you that you have a bad head gasket because it's an 05.

For multimeters, if you can, get one that has peak high hold and peak low hold. You probably don’t need to get a $500 fluke, but the cheap $20 ones are cheap. I’ve had es, amprobe, and a cheap $12 one years ago. Now just flukes. If I were to get just one, I’d go with one that has a ac/dc amp clamp.

Update I figured out the camshaft phaser had a one time issue. So far. Possibly from sitting idle for a month. I put a new radiator, idler pulley, and a set of ruthinium plugs. It is running good now. I appreciate the shared knowledge
