Trying to figure out some ways to mount recovery gear in the taco.Recently got into a group buy on a Hi-Lift Jack. Wanted to know how you other 1st gen guys mounted your jack and shovel? Quick fists maybe? I wish our trucks came with the newer gens bed rail system because theres alot of companies that have different mounting brackets specifically made for stuff like this..

I have the same mounts. How does it not go all the way through the side of the bed ?

X2 can't seem to find where I can drill through and still be able to secure it with a washer and nut.

It came off a 2nd Gen Tacoma. Drill holes and bolt it in.

The bolts only go thru the interior surface of the bed.

    It's a 2 person task

It is a tight fit to get your hand or a wrench between the inner and outer wall(s).
but it can be done as I have.
In my case I had to hold the nut over the hole drilled...
then turn the bolt, in order to get the thread started in the nut.

I also used large fender washers under the nuts to be sure they can't be pulled thru the sheet metal, due to stress or fatigue.

I then used a closed end wrench to hold and a 2nd person on the inside, tightening that bolt using a socket and ratchet.

Small hands are helpful when reaching up in between the inner and outer skin.

    Warning
When drilling those holes into the inner wall/skin...
be sure the drill bit is limited from drilling too deep because it could hit the outer fender skin, if not careful.

There are drill stops (depth limiters) that can be used for this... tho' I simply used a piece of tape on the drill bit to determine its depth.

But the later requires careful drilling... cause if the drill bit punches thru abruptly...
It can put an outward dent in the outer fender skin.

Inside my tool box until I destroyed my tool box on a tree, and it's now mounted to my internal cage with some muffler clamps.

Try to store it in an enclosed space, using a rusty hi lift sucks.

I can take some pictures tonight. And no, no trimming.
All I had to do was drill the holes in the bed and bolt them in.

self tapping screws? or bolt, nut, and washers ?

i appreciate it. just trying to see how it all lines up and the fitment. cause I also have a camper shell and full bed liner. so im guessing id have to remove my bed liner to incorporate the rails

I used the factory torx head screws from 2nd gen Tacoma and picked up some metric nuts and washers. Make sure you have your shell on when you install them. I didn't the first time and had to move them a little.
