I don't have a specific jack suggestion but I never did like the hi-lift jack I had. Seemed dangerous. And of limited use.

I have a 3 1/2 ton floor jack I use at home. Low profile enough for my car, tall enough for the truck. If not, I have blocks of wood laying around. Not that hard.

Oh, and even if you install a lift, the rear axle doesn't change height unless you change the wheels. Even then if you go up to a 285 or 33" it's only an extra 1.5" so the stock bottle jack should work.

I've heard of people using chains, ropes or straps to limit wheel travel so they can get by with a smaller jack.

Thats good to know that it hooks into the reciever. I think with all the options you can cuy for these it would be a good tool for offroading. sounds like there are many ways to use the jack. I plan on getting sliders so that will be another option. thx for the info

We (tigerfan was there too) were lucky enough to watch the Toyota Trail Team do a Hi-Lift demonstration last summer at Harlan. Everything from lifting to spreading to winching techniques. It was pretty cool.

Of course, I wasn't smart enough to video it. But, yeah, something like that will cover all the bases of owning and using a hi-lift. Might even find some stuff on youtube.

I used mine under the ball mount to pick the back end up out of some ruts in the snow when I was buried to the frame. I used the jack's tendency to tip to my advantage. :D Picked the back end up, tipped the jack to an angle, and kept jacking. Base dug into the ground and started pushing the wheels over to solid ground! Reached the end of the jack, reset, did it again maybe 3 times to move the rear wheels over a few feet to solid ground then backed out. :D

Buy a come along and get a safe jack. You'll be loving that thing when you pop yourself in the head.

Yeah, well, I was in "fuck it" mode. Wife and kids with me, took a back road that didn't look bad. Just some snow over the dirt road. Then it turned into about a foot of snow with some dirt on it. I found out when the truck sank down to the frame. Tried 4Hi, 4Lo, locker, rocking, and then dug for about 20 minutes while wishing I had a winch kit for the jack before that "pole vault" trick as you call it came to mind. I was actually quit surprised at how well it worked. Took maybe 5 minutes to get out after dicking around for nearly half an hour with the other options.

Then again, I'm used to just picking up lawn mowers to move over or when stuck so I thought "hey, why not do the same thing here?"

    LMAO  So true....

I actually use my jack around the house more...

    1. rope loop under my barn door corner and over hi-lift to pick it up and pop a roller back on the track
    2. tied off like a tripod under my car port with a 2x4 on the lift tongue to push up the canopy to replace a failing brace (left it like that for 3 days until I could fix it without the jack moving)
    3. used it with some blocks to squeeze a lawn mower tire long enough to replace a valve stem
    4. picked up logs so I could cut with my chainsaw (with a loop of rope around the log and lifting tongue, top of jack tied off to 2 other trees)

These jacks are VERY useful you're smart enough to use them properly, and brace them when necessary.

I use quickfists in the factory rails for shovel amd axe holders. I like having things organized where I can just reach in and grab what I want w/o having to unpack everything.

That thing is badass. It would make self-rescue in soft stuff sooo much faster.

As a matter of fact, aren't they made right there in your neck of the woods, bhelms? Or pretty close, anyway.

Do you have any recommendation as to which jack stands would be suitable in that combo for instance when wanting to change a tire on a 3 inch lifted taco while off road using the hilift jack and jack stands.
