I bought a used one for 125 and have had no issues with it. It has a lifetime warranty on it even if it is 2nd 3 rd or 4th owner. There is a forum to if you google it. Mine has been great and it would serve you great until your money situation is better. Stick with 9mm FMJ and you will be fine. You can get 9mm ammo good luck finding 380. just my 2 cents.

i think the hi points look strange, ugly even. my buddy had one and it jammed constantly. he said it was junk, i said you've also never ever ever cleaned it(and im talkin after firing at least 3-400 rounds thru it without any kind of cleaning). i bet it wouldnt be that terrible of a gun if it was properly taken care of.

myself, i have a Taurus 9mm, that gun has given me 0 problems.

    ^^ Those^^

I would not trust this pistol as a self defense weapon. Plinker, sure but I don't think I could throw it out to fifty yards accurately.

That should be considered unconstitutional as cruel and unusual punishment.

my friend loves to say "is your life worth a 150.00 gun? buy something that wont fail you when you need it the most."
Although, His latest Sig has jammed every 10 shots and is currently in Limbo waiting for the factory to figure out why it sucks. I guess that kinda fucks up his original quote......

Normally i dont agree with these guys and gals on guns but i do here. If you are going first hand gun i recommend any of the other brands lower end models. Hi point is a friday night special. I mean if you are looking at first, considering going with a low caliber (such as 22) rather than going with a lower end hi point. They serve their purpose, just not yours.

I hate to say this (and I really do), but look at what law enforcement agencies, private contractors or military units use Hi Point...I know there are 100 factors that go into this, but seriously, these guys typically pick great hand guns for duty. No one, not a single agency, uses Hi Point. A gun not jamming at the range is crap. Those are ideal conditions. No one will ever shoot a hand gun in a defensive situation with feet shoulder width apart and both hands on the gun. You are going to be moving, or in a very odd postion. The gun might be dirty, it might be 0 degrees out- will it work then? If so, then go for it, regardless of brand.

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
There is second(tenth?)-hand stories about how bad they are and there are plenty of tests and actual experiences that say they're not that bad...ugly, inelegant, but you could say the same about a Glock(perfection? no, but functional)
I personally would look to find a used gun with a better reputation, but if you have to buy new and that's all you can afford, do it. US made with very good warranty...give it a try.

Mine is first hand experience. It is sitting on my kitchen table in it's holster. If it doesn't jam, it miss-fires (trigger/firing pin won't reset). I have never seen a hand gun with so much plastic inside, nor one that is held together with a roll pin and requires a hammer and punch to disassemble.

My xd40 has 400 rounds through it and has never failed once - even while using cheap ammo.
Although I must say pistols are for wimps - AK47 ftw!:D
The AK looks awesome when I stand in front of the mirror naked with it, plus
it has 700+ rounds through it since the last time I cleaned it. It has never failed to cycle or shoot.
My friends AR-15....jams horribly every 50 shots if he does not clean it.

As a FFL dealer for 10 years I will say that Hi-Point is the best cheap piece of junk you can waster your money on. They perform better than and jam less than other low level handguns (bryco, davis, jennings, lorcin, etc.) My advice is to look for other alternatives. A used quality handgun such as a S&W revolver or even the average quality S&W Sigma can be had for around $200 most of the time.

Hi Point are not handguns you should rely your safety, much less your defense on. They will fail with moderate to heavy use. I have witnessed it time and time again on the indoor range that I had in my business.

If you do decide to buy one, please do not take it apart. It is very difficult to disassemble/reassemble and its design gives you many oppurtunities to mess something up.

The magazines are worse than the handgun. Buy extras. Do not leave them loaded or you will surely wear out the cheap little feed spring, guaranteeing your handguns jams by not forcing a round up into the chamber.

Do not use any quality solvents for cleaning. Many of them, ex. Powder Blast, will literally melt parts (including but not limited to your grips) of the gun.

There are other mid priced alternatives you should seriusly consider. I personally am a Glock man. I am also a certifed Glock and Colt armorer, but I do realize that they are not weapons for everyone. I also own and have used extensively H&K. Love them all, but price is a relevant consideration.

I have noticed many comment of the Hi Point carbine rifles. Suprisingly, I had very few issues ever with them other than the magazines wearing out causing jams. (The mags are the same as the handgun mags)

yeah i gotta glock but you could definitely get a good quality used gun or maybe even new from academy for $300. i would just say thats not really the area you wanna be cheap

on a side note i just saw my uncle about a month ago and we were talkin guns and he had a highpoint lol i told him all the shit i heard about them and that thing was so ugly and bulky but he said (not me) something like you just gotta take it out when you first get it and put like 500 rounds through it and not to clean it and he said his never jams

maybe he was drunk when he said that? cuz i dont really believe it

btw the gun you buy now(if you buy a decent one) should last you the rest of your life. just remember if you do it right it should be a one time thing. unless you start to make a hobby out of it
