Hey all, this is my second post to this site. Don't have a pickup yet, I've been looking for one for a couple of weeks now. I think I'll be pulling the trigger soon, once I find one I like and I can unload my wife's Highlander Hybrid.

I've been modding Hondas, Lexus, and BMW cars since '93. The truck 'bug' got me. A little over a year ago, I got interested in building/buying an early 90s Toyota pickup but ended up buying a '92 Honda accord wagon. Now I'm ready to go full tilt into one...instead of all the '90s trucks, I want to get a nicer appointed 2010+ Tacoma. I have two kids that'll probably ride along every now and then.

If anyone has any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Oh yeah, if anyone has any leads, here's what I'm looking for:
    2010+
    Double cab
Mgm, black, super white, or red
    4x4
    Navigation
    ....as many options as available.

Also, I'm not oppose to pre-owned and modded, as long as its not over the top.

Ok narrowed it down to either finding a brand new 2013, happened to find two in the region that both area close to having all the options I want, 4x4, DCSB, TRD Sport, and either in Super White or Blue.

I also found this 2012 very close to where I live:
    2012 MGM TRD Sport

They are asking $32k, I'll probably have a 2006 Highlander Hybrid Limited AWD (fully loaded) to trade in.

The used Tacoma has 17k miles on it, comes from West Virginia, has clean carfax (with the exception that the previous owner only kept it for 9 months and put the 17k miles in that short time). The truck has some mods (exhaust, bull bar, and relocated the USB/Aux jack to the glove box....keeping the spot open with no blank filled in). It drives straight, seems a little sluggish down low...don't/haven't compared it to another Tacoma.

Anyone have thoughts on this used one (I don't like the 20" wheels at all...look better in person vs. pictures, but still don't care to keep them).

Says that truck has sold already.
If your going to spend $32K you might as well get a brand new 2013 Sport that no one has messed with.

That's what I'm teeter-tottering on. New one will most likely be around $34k out the door (if not more) with what I found using True Car; plus, I may be in for an 8 week wait if local dealers don't find one within the region. If they find outside of the region, they won't honor the TruCar price, so then I'm about $36 to $38k out the door after TTL.

This used one has almost all the features and options I'm wanting, I think the only thing it's missing is the roof rails. I can add those later.

17k miles is higher than I want for a 9 month used truck....but I was going to try to leverage a better price because of it. I've got cash in hand with a fair trade-in on the Highlander (and willing to finance if that helps bring the price down). The other thing that's different about thi scar versus other used cars I've bought in the past is that 17k for a Toyota truck is nothing....I'd still have another 183k miles to go before I need to worry about anything, right? ;)

If I was shooting for around $30k out the door, would that be more attractive?

Yeah $30K OTD would be great but thats pushing it especially with TTL fees. I'd see if you can knock down that 2013 price by a few thousand and if you can I'd go the new route.

Ok thanks.....but I don't like you right now. :D I may be in for a 8+ week wait. I want my toys NOW; I don't want to wait for Xmas. Yes, I was the kid that would peel the Xmas gift wrapping a little bit just to see what I was getting if they were under the tree before Xmas.

I want my truck and I want to start modding!!!

...btw, I just skimmed through your build thread. Beautiful Tacoma of all 2 or 3 pics I saw of it!!!

Haha I know what you mean and I dont like waiting for stuff either but something this big and expensive will be worth it. I guarantee you will spend a ton more on just mods since your part of TW now!! I spent over $10K in my mods.

Thanks!! I really like the way my truck looks but I havent modded it in a couple of years. I mod my Dodge Challenger and dirt bike more now. :D

I'm definitely not new to modding. Here are some past/current cars of mine.

    Past builds:
Yellow Prelude (S2000 is current car, but looks nothing like this currently)

    Silver BMW (wife's car):

    Integra (before):

    GS430:

    Wanted to build this:

    Built this instead:

Which leads me to current cars that my wife and I have. First is the Highlander in the background of the picture above (not going to bore you all with pics of the only non-modified car we've had in the last 15+ years.....wait, let me take that back, we modified it with a ceiling mounted DVD player, extra AV iin/outputs and wireless headphones).

    My current dd IS350:

Wife's S2000 (bought, built and gave it to her for XMAS 2010):

    Daughter riding shotgun
    [IMG]

My S2000 (currently under reconstruction, again). Color is Truffle Mica from Lexus, which I think will lok nice being towed by an MGM Tacoma:

Why do you think I'm considering trying to save a couple $$$ and thinking about buying a one year used, higher mileage (for one year's use)....

I'm going to mod it and maintain it like my other cars anyway. Plus, the 2012 is a Toyota Certified to 100k, not sure what that'll mean once I do a 3" lift, mount up some TRD FJ wheels or some 17" Volk TE37's, and whatever else.

Yeah I see what your saying now. The 3" lift shouldnt affect your warranty cause if something goes wrong they have to prove that it was the lift itself that caused the issue. I have a 3" lift on mine and its been to the dealership once or twice and they never said a word other then how good the truck looks.

If I buy the used one, I'll be getting it from a dealership that's done some maintenance work on my GS430. They remember me for it.

If I buy new, I'll be getting it from where my Highlander was bought new. They outright undercut every other Toyota dealer in NW Chicago for new cars if you bring in a written price from any other dealership. They get the new car sale, treat you like a Lexus customer (they go the full 10 yards on customer service....take better care of your car than other dealers take care of their customers).
