mr2mki is talking about retrofitting projector housings into your headlights.
If you put HIDs into your reflector housings, it causes glare, and can annoy other drivers. Lots of people do it, but it's not great.
    These are projectors

They are recommended for HIDs since they have a sharp cut off for low beams.

I ordered mine from DDM Tuning they work good till I build up the confidence to tear apart my housings to do a retrofit.

Don't fall for the gimmicks of blue lighting whatever u decide to do... Projector or not.

OEM hid equipped vehicles are not blue ricer bulbs... They are 4300k pure white bulbs. The blue is visible to others within the colorband. Its purely an artifact of the projector NOT the bulbs.

Blue is the worst choice for driving.... Blue is irritating to the human eye and causes fatigue more than white.... Blue lights are dimmer.... Not whiter and brighter... They also are terrible in rain, fog, and dust.

Been there played that game when I was 18 and fell for the marketing crap.

And plz don't throw em in ur fogs..... There's no h10 or h11 hid bulb with glare shields..... Hid in the fogs are very blinding to others.... I've tried 2 sets. 1 I bought and tried then sold the next week..... The other set I won and tried them.... They got thrown away the next day after I seen the terrible scatter and how blinding they were from the viewpoint of an oncoming car at night.

It's not just annoying, it can frikkin' blind oncoming drivers (who, by the way, will tend to unconsciously drift towards the source of the light!)

You drive a truck, which would make it even worse as it is high off the ground.

Lots of people do it, and they are the ones giving HIDs a bad name. You wouldn't believe the number of ordinary drivers who tell me they feel HIDs should be flat-out banned altogether because of it.

P.S. You don't necessarily have to retrofit, aka cut n' chop your housings; there are usually complete projector housings available on the aftermarket that will bolt in.

^^^ actually wasnt there a huge movement by people trying to do just that about 8yrs ago?
uninformed people would get confused and think those stupid ricer lights were the same as OEM hids? (im pretty sure BMW was the scapegoat).

Once proven that the only time they are offensive is below the cutoff which is variable depending on slope/bumps in the road, then BMW got left alone......auto adjusting projectors made a big difference too IIRC.

P.S. I like HID just fine, had a motorcycle with an HID setup and an S2000, which has HID factory. Just don't half-ass a conversion, that is what I (and most everybody else) hates.

Good thread. I like the level of responsibility shown by TW members.

We drive trucks, too often some of us are inconsiderate particularly where lighting is involved.

Thank you everyone for the reply!
Yes I am wanting quality headlights, NOT eBay.
The reason I am wanting HID's is because I have to commute to work (48 miles round trip, 2 lane highway with lots of deer) at night and to school (25 miles round trip) at night. I just want to be able to see a lot better.
When I get them ill order the 6000k, not going for a blue look, just the brightest ones.

For projector lenses, do you have to tear out your whole housing now and that goes in?

Ur best bet is the fxr retrofit from the retrofit source.com

U will light up 7 lanes without blinding anyone.

As for the best bulbs, get Philips 4300K. Those will be the brightest and purist white...... Not 6000k. U lose output with 6000k

P.S. It has been my experience that HIDs don't help much with illuminating the side of the road, where the deer hang out. Halogen is almost better for that...

on a 2 lane highway, u dont think the spread of an FXR will work?

they seriously spread out 7 lanes.

Even morimoto minis spread plenty enough. Ask me how i know.. And they are plug in play basically.

As Justus said.. dont go with 6k if you dont want blue. 5k is made.. that's what I run, and imo.. are the purest white you can go. My 4.3k bulbs were white with just a hint of yellow/halogen look to them.

My 5k morimoto's in my headlights and foglights put out PLENTY of light and spread extremely well.

I have 6000k in my stock housings and my fogs. You can aim your headlights, but then again that only helps so much. I did not retrofit because after spending ~$700, I don't even think the HIDs are worth it anymore. Yes they are bright, but I live in rural AL where there are lots of non-busy, unlit two lane roads. They help out a tremendous amount driving on these roads. Now the fogs: These things are deadly. I only use them when there are NO cars around. When I see one, I turn them off. They light up the sides of the road very well.
