I got my DDM HID kit the other day and installed them already. They are nice and better than I expected. I have the Hi/Lo setup. I have a question. The bulbs have a metal casing around them that totally enclosed the bulb except for an open slot on the bottom. Why did they do this? Has anyone removed this casing? Did it create any problems? Were the headlights too bright on low?
    Thanks

Yes that is the shield for high low beams. The big opening in the top is for low. The light comes out of the top and reflects off the top of the reflector then down at the road. When you actuate the high beams a solenoid pulls the center of the bulb where all the light comes from back into the window that faces down. this allows light to come out the bottom hit the bottom of the reflector and light up higher for high beams. DO NOT REMOVE IT you will blind the shit out of everyone.

Thanks for the answer. I am glad that I asked because I had no idea that the casing did this. Saved me a bunch of time and frustration!

the hole in the shield needs to be on the top. the bulbs stays tucked in while in low beam mode, when you hit the high beams the bulb moves up out of the hole making it brighter

wording wasn't too good on that post...the kit is decent. one bulb is a shade cooler than the other and the other bulb pulses..hard to explain but while the light is on right in the middle of the light spread it looks like the light is a beating heart, only the very center is moving like that, but that's not too bad. what i actually hate is my projectors..awful cutoff, and uneven spreads.
