Non-chip key hidden outside the truck or with you and the chip key hidden or locked in console vault or other secure compartment inside truck.

Reviving an old thread, but i have a tool box in the back of the truck that i keep padlocked to the steel rings (the U shaped ones on the side) inside the bed with a metal cable. If keeping a key secure for short periods of time, why not pad lock the key to a steel ring wwitha combo lock? It would take a bolt cutter or torx bits to get the key, and at that point that same person would have broke your window instead. I wouldn't do it unless there is a tonneau or something covering the bed as i still would want it in sight. Its better than hiding it as a criminal could see you do that and just grab it. Its a little difficult to do with the new keys, but in my old cars i drilled a hole large enough to put the pad lock right through.
