When up in the mountains I had 35 feet of wire for the antenna. It increased rang out the radio.
With a walkie talkie your luck to get 3 miles in the mountains. On bad day your luck to get a 1/2 mile.

With a 4 watt CB with a inverted Vee 34 foot antenna max range 50 to 160 miles line of site.
This want Marconi found a very long antenna on the first transmission over Atlantic using a hydrogen balloon.

The most important part of a CB is a very long antenna .
A 102" antenna will give 10 to 20 miles on most days but down side is 102" .
I use a sort antenna so does not look like I have a CB.
