I just finished adding the same Reese brake controller on my 2005 prerunner 2wd. This mod worked great, thanks for the pictures and idea!

Gonna start pulling a 2010 forest river rpod 151 tomorrow.

I'm SO GLAD I read this post before buying and mounting a controller. After reading this I looked up dimensions on assorted controllers and found the one I liked that would fit. I went with a "Trailermate X10" proportional brake controller, it was a little tight but it went fine, initial trailer calibration will need the use of a 90 degree ring pick or allen wrench to adjust the bias and gain adjustment but that's no big deal.

Also I spent about an hour looking for the service connector, it was not where the owners manual stated and was different from where others have found theirs on this site. Mine was above the kick panel up the wiring harness, near the corner of the firewall and the side of the truck. It was taped behind another connector that had foam wrapped around it. There is another white connector where the owners manual stated the service connector should be but it has a grey plug in it and this of course is NOT the trailer brake service connector. I can't stand this practice of hiding things just to make it difficult for the average person to work, all car companies are guilty of this crap. KEY, look for the thick BLUE wire!

For some reason I can't post a picture here, when I click for the attachment nothing happens. Anyway it looks good.

Finally, this is what I have been looking for . I just got my new truck about two weeks ago and the brake controller location has been driving me nuts. I am never wild about cutting oem plastic parts but I want this truck set up right. I bought the same controller ( the teckno version). If the door dropping becomes an issue its likely a little well placed Velcro would solve it. thanks.

I dont suppose you recall the install (this thread is years old)....not sure what wires go to the 5 from the harness and if you grounded the white to the harness wire to the battery like the reese instructions suggest

What controller is that? proportional or timed? Will the door close? I've been looking for a proportional controller that will fit in the coin tray.

Thanks for the reply. I zoomed in on your picture last week, got the name and ordered it up. I'll have it on Tuesday. I do have a question, is the sensitivity control knob on the bottom of the unit and do you have any issues adjusting it while it's in the coin tray?

Redarc is a controller that is has the magic black proportional control box that you place out of the way, it's wired to a single twist/push knob that can be mounted through one of the blank switch covers on your dash which of course you need to trim to make the knob fit, I have mine lower left of steering by the traction control switch. Braking force is controlled by turning the knob to different positions, manual override is done by pushing the knob in. It's a clean and easy setup
It's made in Australia but can be bought through etrailer which is how I got mine.

Very nice, I may have to do this if the next one doesn't work out well.
