I think he was referring to the topic of the liability issue is a different topic then the question of the storage of the gun.

not saying who is right wrong or just having a bad day but I see nothing wrong with either of your posts.

even though both of you made posts that did not discuss hiding spots they do seam relevant to the discussion.

don't want to get in the middle of this but im just saying how I see it

The title is regarding 'hide or lock' a gun in your truck. True?

Let me try to make my opinion more clear. Don't 'hide' a gun in your truck. Ever. Never. No. No way. How's that?

Invest $20 to get a freaking carry permit and keep it with you. Wait a minute. You don't have one?

Or at least lock it really really really good if that's only the best you've got. Oh, too bad. Don't have $20 for a lock? Probably doesn't matter since it can be broken. So, uhhhh, just don't leave your piece in your truck. Gee. That might be it.

Don't gift your piece to some scum and then read in the news that he killed an innocent with YOUR piece.

Simple enough? Am I making sense? Should I rephrase differently?

    Enough already. This isn't complex.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I only ever carry mine on roadtrips in unfamiliar territory, and it's either in the center console or glovebox. Back home I got nothing to worry about, this is a sleepy retirement town, everybody here knows everybody and it's peaceful. Except the occasional bar fight on a weekend, and dumbass teens vandalizing things from time to time, crime doesn't exist here.

Your attitude is like a christian who pushes religion. There are good ways and bad ways to express your views... Your route is arrogant and cocky. Like the guys who open carry trying to cause a big deal.

Try to learn to not be so confrontational and you can get your point across better.

Ps: I agree with you and still feel like telling you to shut up.

Op there are tons of options, not having a way to lock it is a bad one. No matter what there is going to be places you can't carry. Schools, banks ect. Best option in my opinion is a lock box bolted under the seat. Out of sight. And do not have gun related stickers on your truck.

I picked up a lock box and cable system, secured to the seat, requiers a key. Should the need arise that I have it and can't carry it into where ever I am going.

A week after I got my tacoma, it was broken into due the door not shutting properly the ... young man ... was able to pry open the front door. (access cab) and went through a truck packed with camera equipment and my fire arms which I had 10 mins prior walked out to truck, on my way to buy my holster for my first pistol. Truck sat in the Police compound lot for a week before I got it back.

Thankfully they caught the kid. Gun however was not returned as it was used in a hold up.

Mind you, I live in a semi quiet little town, rich white folk, white collar with some blue collar. No one locks their doors kinda town. So no one ever thought it would happen.

The safe cost me maybe $25-50, you can tug all you want it won't come out of the truck, unless you've got a decent set of fire department bolt cutters. It tucks under the seat and is completely missed by most of my friends because of the weather tech lining I have in the back seat.

I was just going to edit my post and include this, I've read a lot of good reviews about it, and how it doesn't take up as much space as you think it will. I'm actually planning on ordering it for myself for Christmas

If need be, I've had a good friend who worked for a certain agency go over my vehicle and has shown me numerous hiding spots that a normal break and grab thief would not look. So if any of you can't afford to keep a weapon in a safe, or have some sort of lock please, please, from some one who lost their first piece and had the worst cast scenario happen to them, PM me, and I can give you a few pointers as to were to hide them.

Console Vault......you can't beat it. I have one.
    http://www.lieblweb.com/consolevault.html

When I carry to work...I'm not allowed to have guns on the property. Although, I'm still 'on the property' when parked, I leave the gun in the truck and I keep it locked in the console vault. I will never leave a gun in the truck unlocked (when I'm not in it).

The Console vault has been great for other things....
Before I had a console vault, my truck was broken into and someone stole my ipod. Not a big deal....but now, the ipod, the GPS, and all those electronics and important things are locked up. It's great to put your wallet in there if you don't want to carry it around (say, for hiking, or kayaking, etc).

Good points. Excellent points. I'll try to do better.

There is so much bad news that it makes me sick. I guess that I'm feeling really passionate about not helping to enable some psycopath pos to rob a store and shoot everyone in it. As gun owners we need to be seeing the damage beyond the loss of a few hundred dollars. Yeah. I need to find a better way to express myself.

Thanks for the heads up. Wish i could be more like you.

I have a bulldog vault that I lock my Shield in when I am away from the truck for an extended amount of time without carrying.

I'm also searching for a better option, not completely sold on the console vault, although I do like it and seems to be a good option. Looking for something with good efficiency that is secure, but also very easy to unlock and access quickly, if the need were to arise.

I thought about getting this, but I have to much shit that I keep in the center console to want to lose all of it for pistol storage.

I saw a project a guy did on here that I have been looking for since last night that was perfect. He built a hidden compartment in the bottom of his console, carpeted the bottom and had a lock on it. It really was brilliant and I cant find the thread. I'll keep looking.

As for me, I rarely leave my gun in my truck, its always on me, unless I have to go into the post office, church (I am building a church) or if I am going into a bar to have a drink....which is rare in itself(you cant carry in a bar, restaurant yes, bar no).

If it gets left in the truck it just gets tucked between the seat. I dont really worry about it at all. But then again, up here in ND 90% of the vehicles have a firearm in them at any given time. Oh, and no one locks there rigs either. Its nothing to go into the grocery store and see a parking lot full of running vehicles, unlocked and unoccupied. You just dont fuck with someone elses shit, probably because everyone is packing.

This mind set changes when I go back to OR or ID though. Which is why I want to do the center console mod.

TacomaRobert, you need to chill out dude. No sense getting all worked up about this, its an internet forum.

Mine does as well, since Oregon requires you to take there state issued class to get there Oregon concealed permit. You have it concealed or hidden without admitting to it and without there state permit and they find it,,you will march away in cuffs and do 7 days or more in the chicken coop, no matter how good of a boy or girl you have been. Instant felony. Be careful with communist Oregon. When I do pass thru Oregon,I yank the mag, clear the pipe and lay it on the passenger floorboards unobscured, which is what Oregon wants if you don't have there state specific permit.

You say you want a Oregon state permit and live outside of that state?,,get ready for the BS you have to go thru. It can be very trying and tough.

Being in Canada I cannot CCW but I did install the ConsoleVault for my passport, wallet and other valuables while I am traveling on road trips, or to lock stuff in the truck around town, super happy with it and would defiantly put one in every vehicle I own.
