    Alright guys, I'm new here, and I was wondering what would be the best type/brand HIDs to get. I was looking around and found cheap ones. I'm not one to get the cheapest ones out there.

    Any help on what brand to get would be really appreciated

    Please have some consideration for other drivers and do not run simple plug-in replacements. They cause excessive glare, and in some states, are a ticket waiting to happen.

    No HID system will likely pass inspection if your state requires it.

    A good workable system that does not blind other drivers, and while technically not legal, is generally overlooked, is a proper projector retrofit.
    I like my Morimoto D2S projectors. They use an industry-standard Philips bulb.

    I've tested it and it's not bad like everyone make it out to be. It's obviously brighter but isn't that the point?..

    My lights are bright as of now. But I want a brighter, whiter light. My brother has 10k lights in his tacoma and they are not blinding at all. They are brighter but that's what I want.

    How did you do your "testing"? I had drop in HIDs for a while myself, but switched once I realized that many people I pulled up behind would be turning down their mirrors just so that they could see. No matter what you think they are doing it still is undeniably a distraction for other drivers. Maybe my outlook would be different if people were running in the 4300-5000k color spectrum but all I ever see is 6000k+ blue light specials. I am not going to argue with you about what you or I think is right, but I am just saying that drop in HIDs are a distraction and deflect a lot of wayward light.
    So.... If he has what you want then why not just get them? 10000k is VERY blue according to a color temp chart. If he is producing white light he is definitely not at 10000k. People are going to do whatever they want, but if you are dead set on doing drop in HIDs please for the love of god get 4300k or 5000k.

    I was looking at the 6000k HIDs. They seem to be the whitest and brightest. I have bright white lights everywhere else on the truck some kinda want to stay in that white theme. I had looked at the 5000k too and I don't know what temp to get. I might just go with the 5ks

    6000k is most definitely blue. Statistically 4300k is the optimal color temperture for lumen output. Anything higher than that provides decreased lumen output. However, some don't like the light hint of yellow that comes with 4300k at which point I would direct you toward 5000

    drop in hid's while a flood light, do not blind people, or cause people to turn down their mirrors, unless your headlights are misangled. if theyre angled up from the inability to understand common mechanics such as angling headlights, or from a "bro lift" then theyre sure to be annoying, as are almost any headlight when pointed up. also, when you do a lift, you are supposed to angle your lights down, generally you should ONLY have your lights pointed so far out.

    Most states, arizona one of them state that any modification to headlights, other then stock, is illegal. hid, retrofit, aftermarket housings, doesnt matter. so the choice is up to you.

    lights are measured in temps, a GOOD kit, 6000 kit is barely starting to blue, while 4300 is starting yellow, from white.

    slim cubby is local to the tw site, search for him, sells a great kid and provides great customer service.

    I put them in and then drove my friends truck as he drove mine and it was not bright as it being a distraction. My truck is also not lifted either. I've been running them for over 4 months and no one has complained to me about them nor have I had any people flash me. If I would get any flashes then I would consider changing them.

    I want just the basic white. Not to be a smart ass but I kinda wanted to get away from that yellow tint with HIDs. I want to avoid the yellowness at all cost. So I don't want the 4300k if its yellow.

    That scares me as I'm just starting my years as I'm going into sophomore year, but I love the look of the retros and I'll have them one day. You're retros look amazing.

    Thanks for the "lesson", but I understand mechanics just fine. Mine were aimed correctly. I was not lifted at the time either. This makes me assume that you have drop-in HIDs yourself and are trying to defend having them. Drive your truck up to a wall and look how much scattered light is going up and to the sides of your hotspot. Pushing more power and ubstalling a different shaped bulb (HIDs) make these areas brighter therefore making your headlights appear brighter to oncoming traffic even if you have them aimed correctly.

    No one mentioned legality... but that is true. However, you are more likely to pass inspection with a proper retrofit than a drop in HID kit. Again, I am not going to try to tell you what to think, but instead provide some insight and personal experience.

    I wasn't lifted when I ran drop in HIDs. I honestly felt that I was getting less usable light and could tell that it bothered people. If you're fine with them do whatever you want.

    Not true.

    The stock housings were engineered for a filament.
    The HID burners produce an arc. The arc is larger and "fuzzier" than the tungsten filament, so the light can not and does not reflect into a proper pattern off of the bowl.

    Yes, you can angle your housings down enough to avoid creating glare to oncoming traffic... but the result limits your own field of view to the point that it is worse than stock.
    OEM HID burners in luxury vehicles are 4300k. That is what mine are in the photos above.
    4300k is certainly not "starting yellow"... it is pure white.
    As you go higher, 6000k is starting to pick up a noticeable blue unless you are dealing with a 55w ballast, which will tend to "wash out" the color a bit and a 6000k will look more like a 5000k, 8000k (quite blue on a 35w) will look more like a 6000k.

    These kits are generating a serious amount of complaints on the state and Federal level, and there is a lot of talk of increasing regulation. In 2005, these plug-in kits were completely banned from sale in the US. Suppliers protested, and the kits were soon back on the market with the requirement that they be sold only for off-highway applications.

    Definitely not true, unfortunately.

    Stick to a retrofit if you don't want to blind people and do it right the first time.

    Even I ran a drop in HID kit many moons ago before I really learned about the benefits of retrofitting.
