So i have a set of retrofit headlights and a set of HIDs in my stock foglight housings. Both are run to my bluesea fusebox and grounded there as well. I have 4 ga wire running from the fuse box to the battery less than 2' away.

The headlights do not cause as much interference as the foglights but they do have an effect.

So at night I cannot listen to the radio with my foglights on as it causes so much static, but i can with the headlights but it does cause a minimal disturbance. Today i installed a cb radio and noticed tonight that the headlights and foglights have the same effect as with the radio. The HU is grounded completely seperately from all of the other devices. Another fun fact is that is does not effect any other operation of the HU just the radio, the cd player and ipod work with zero interference.

This leads me to believe that it is not a grounding issue but somehow im creating radio frequencies with HID setup.

I've got the same issue but not as bad. I can still listen to my radio, my headlights are on whenever the truck is on.
Sorry, no ideas on how to fix it.

Edit: a quick Google search and I found this. A possible solution using ferrite cores. I've got some around. If I find them I'll try it.

I posted about my issue with this back in probably 2008 and had no luck finding any answers. Still to this day my headlights and fog lights affect my radio. The reason I say both is because I am able to turn on just my fogs without my headlights being on.

Its not a ground issue at all. This is RF noise emiiting from the ballasts that is "leaking" into your antennas through frequency not through the truck (if that makes sense). Its worse with fog lights because those are usually cheap plug-n-play HIDs and therefore the ballasts are not well insulated at all. Your retrofitted headlights probably have much better quality HIDs and insulated ballasts which limit the RF noise. You can try wrapping your ballasts in aluminum foil to help limits the electrical "noise" being emitted but it may not help much. Keep your ballasts as far away from any antenna as possible

Its either the ballast or wiring not being shielded.... Some sets are worse than others.

I'd contact the boys at TRS and let them know what's going on and ask if theirs are shielded enough to prevent this.

I had a similar problem as well. No interference with LEDs or with high beams on. Just with the HIDs. I just learned to live with it.

There's a huge thread on HIDPlanet about this I found last week. Skimming through the thread gave a number of different "solutions" to help fix issues. And it appears there's mulitple types of noise coming from the headlights, so something that you may read as a solution may not fix your specific problem.

    Here's the thread:
    http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?48181-ballast-fm-interference&highlight=interference

I have this issue too and it's not horrible, but there is a difference in quality when the headlights are on and I have an FM station on.

Ive ground ballast, kept them away from metal. Ground to the battery, then to the frame. Nothing works.

Now i realized that my amps also are causing static in the cb.

I have TRS retro's but only thing I get is static in my stereo when I turn em on. Goes away after that though. I thought that was bad enough. Would suck to have it all the time for sure.
