I cant always turn on my high beams, I can always pull back the stalk and that works but they dont always come on when I push it to the forward (locked) position. Just wondered is there a sensor that stops them from coming on or they need repair ?

Yup. Try turning off the Auto Headlight button, bottom left. Auto Highbeams don't come on below 25mph or something...
