3rd gen here, no regrets. I lost a lot of the "truck" hauling capability when I added the camper top, so I just tote a utility trailer when I need to get anything too messy or bulky. Plywood or lumber just goes on the roofrack though. The only major capability I lost was the ability to load pallets easily at a loading dock... I just bring a trailer for that now.

The SOS offroad concepts hinge is way more well-built than some of the other options. It's not easy to remove at all, which is a plus, it's very stout and isn't going anywhere. You won't realistically remove a swingout for better clearance anyways -- they're heavy, greased, and tightened to 100+ ft lbs of torque, so it's WAY more trouble to mess with removing them than just using a trailer.
I fit in my garage, though I did have to cut the trim at the top of the door opening for clearance.

I have windoors with a side toolbox. There's a platform and organizers inside the cap too. At least for me, that's more utility than an open bed by far.

Yeah I added a swing out myself on my pelfreybilt high clearance. Haven't had an issues with it. I even added a table that folds down. I'm also running 37s that's the reason why I went with swing out so I can have a full size spare.

Yes the finish product of the table does have cable attached to them when they told down.

I also relocated my rear camera so I can see it. I also have a anytime rear camera mod down.

Just had a local company make/install a HC dual swingout for me. I'm very happy with it other than how far over the jerry can swingout is in regards to the tail light. It's worrying me a bit. Normally the company makes the swingout on that side for a sleeker rotopax setup, but I requested to have a custom arm made for my NATO cans.

Has anyone else dealt with tail light visibility issues? I'll likely get pulled over if I don't improve their up close visibility -- especially once the 35's are on. I was thinking of adapting a motorcycle license plate brake/turn signal light setup actually that would sit in plain sight (covers the hitch receiver).

    Something like this: https://www.twistedthrottle.ca/admo...ning-brake-and-progressive-amber-turn-signals

I'd just move the jerry can mount to the right a bit and you'll be fine

I forgot about this thread, but nows the perfect time for an update. I got tired of my swingout and decided to cut it off. Did some soul searching and decided I don’t need spare fuel, as I just frequent off road parks. Don’t need the camping table, as I don’t camp as much as I’d like. That only leaves the spare, which I just relocated to the bed.

The weight savings off the ass end is very noticeable, I can see out my back window again, and it’s so nice not having to open the swingout every time I wanna get in the bed.

If y’all are worried a swing out is going to decrease your lumber hauling capabilities…let me assure you, a set of bars on top of any car can get what you want, where you need it haha. The daily driver gets work done on the regular! Yes, I know this is not OSHA approved and I pick this up a couple blocks from my house.
