Every new Tacoma owner gets a Free 6 month / 5000 mile svc. post card in the mail,
I returned to my selling dealer
    "Toyota of Richardson"
    my copy reads as follows:
1ST TC NO COST SVC-TIRE ROT, MPI, INSP/ADJ FLUIDS
    LABOR 33.90
    MULTI-POINT INSPECTION WITH BRAKE CHECK
    N/C
    COMPLIMENTARY CAR WASH AND VACUUM
    N/C
I thought it would be prudent to have the first oil change at this time, so that there would be record of it.
CHANGE OIL & FILTER USING FULL SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL 0W20
    LABOR AMOUNT 54.83
    PARTS AMOUNT 46.54
    MISC.CHARGES 2.93
    TOTAL CHARGES 104.30
    LESS DISCOUNT 33.90
    SALES TAX 4.08

    PLEASE PAY THIS AMOUNT 74.48

The lesson hear is do your own oil changes and keep your receipts.

If you asked them to also do an oil change, you have to pay for it. Although, $74 is WAY WAY too high for an oil change.

They change the oil at 10k intervals. You get two free changes so free to use them how you please but you have to tell dealership that's what your intentions are. Otherwise they are going to charge you...

You have a Gen 2, they need the oil changed twice as often.

10,000 mile oil change interval. That leaves you with 2

Did you review the owners manual and maintenance schedule? 5k is free. It includes tire rotate and "multipoint inspection".

As others have indicated, 10 and 20k intervals are ToyotaCare free oil changes.

If you want it done at 5k and 15k, be prepared to pay. Some dealers won't charge you, many will.

10K mile oil change is not necessary unless you are operating in "EXTREME" conditions. 95% of people will not meet these "EXTREME" conditions criteria and so a 5K oil change is not only a waste of your time, but is also a waste of money and resources.

Correct...only synthetics can get to zero weight. I would never go 10k miles on dino oil but with synthetic, 10k is way within spec. Extreme conditions...it means so many things and i doubt any of us face them in these trucks.

Plus, an oil flush is so easy...20 mins tops on these trucks. its not worth taking to the dealer and then not knowing what they are putting in or if they change the filter.

meh, $74 for a synthetic oil change isn't too crazy of a price around here. Not that I would pay it, but around $60-75 is normal in many areas.

Could have just done it yourself. No point in documenting something that isn't even recommended maintenance.

Costco has mobile1 for $26 for 6 quarts. (It takes 6.1 total but I'd imagine that .1 is negligible.)

    Truck stuff
I got my truck from richardson toyota also and took it in once for service... I will not go back. I'd rather pay for an oil change than let them touch my truck again. The whole service department seems like a bunch of idiots that cant do a requested job or service after nicely requesting it 3 times. When i spoke to the manager he just said they need to work on our communication its been a problem for them. He didnt even apoligize for wasting 6 hrs of my day and not completing my requested service. I regret letting them work on my truck. Then again Plano cross threaded one of my skid bolts... I'll just do all future work myself and save the headache the dealer causes.

It's important soak the filter before install. Buy the 7 quarts and the extra quart will be good for another 5 oil changes lol.
