Nope. It's gonna happen when you have metal on metal moving against each other. No biggie.

It would take a while for a hi lift to rust out completely.. unless your sprinkling salt & water on it everyday. lol

If you wanna be safe just put some old engine oil on it (like stated above ^). you could touch it up with some paint if you really want too.. Just depends on how much OCD you have.

Who wants to look like a rookie? LOL Don't worry about it, those jacks could survive past your lifetime even if they didn't paint 'em...do keep the moving parts lubed tho!

I have my Hi Lift in that neoprene cover.
I am more concerned with keeping the moving parts lubed up.

Is there a specific oil/grease to use?

I like Chevron or any equivalent red grease although white lithium grease works fine, and TriFlow oil where appropriate...anything works...not a critical issue.

My Hi-Lift jack is 50 years old. My dad bought it and gave it to me when the jack was 33 years old. It literally hasn't had paint on it for decades. I keep it dry and when it does get muddy or wet I will clean it up and spray some WD-40 on it. I don't baby the thing. If any surface rust forms it gets rubbed off the next time I use it.

If you take care of the jack, your great grand kids will still be using it.
