at what point does your stock jack not go up high enough to where a high lift is required? what size lift is it?

For me, it is my 3" lift. Even on my driveway, when i try to lift from the rear dif, it is "ok" but when i jack from the frame or front cross member, the tires never leave the ground unless I add height with a nlock of wood or something.
