I understand. I was just listing the general info of what needs to be replaced. I wasn't aware OP had the 4 cylinder. That's why I said serpentine/timing belt depending on which ones you have.

You can probably do it. I think the lowers are easier, especially if you have a pitman arm puller. It'd be worth getting if u don't. The uppers are still fairly easy, but you'll have to rent a ball joint press from the parts store. Also you'll need some snap ring ring pliers for the uppers. And don't forget the OEM bailing tie wire for the boot. I thought that was the greatest thing ever lol. There are some good videos/write ups of it if I remember right.

That's what I said in Post#5. I have a 3.4 and have to change that damn thing! Whereas the 4cyl's don't. But they have a shitty location for the fuel filter while the 3.4 is a piece a cake! So I guess you have to give and take!

The easiest way to replace the fuel filter in 2.7 is to to the take apart the whole intake (and clean it well at the same time ). That's what I did

Thank you so much! Copied and pasted on my computer for reference. When you change the coolant, do you use the recommended toyota long-life (red) coolant or the old green stuff?

I don't think you need to do a 4,000 mile oil change on conventional. I'm going to go 7500 (gasp!) on pennzoil yellow bottle this oil change interval. Then I'm dumping whatever random leftover oil I have (Mobil 1, GTX) and going another 7500 miles. People have sent their oil to black stone and could easily get 15k miles with synthetic. I personally would not go over 10k. 5,000 miles is more than safe for most good conventional oils.

Check your valve clearance. If you don't your exhaust valves will eventually be out of spec and you'll burn them. I just checked mine after 85,000 miles and I had three exhaust valves on the minimum clearance. Ordered three shims and now my exhaust valves are back in the middle of the clearance specification.

Oh I know haha, I was directing towards the OP - I could see where that would be confusing.

Oh, trust me, after talking with so many Tacoma owners and going on here for tips–I know what these trucks can do. the best part is that I'm the only Toyota Owner in my family, and I watch them (Chevy, Ford, Mazda, Ford) all go to repair shops so often. My brother came to visit the other day, he has a 2006 Ford F-150 and has dropped about 4,000 bucks in repairs in the last 110,000 miles! Suspension, Throttle body, alternator, pumps, computer issues, etc. I told him I spent 6.29 to clean out my Air Intake around TB while he spent $$$ replacing his, and we have the same mileage lol.

Other quick question...As is usually the case in the American economy these days–it seems you can always buy anything money can buy cheaper online. As I go about buying parts/fluids, are there places online (or even not online) that y'all like to get your stuff from?

I think I've read Camelback Toyota has better prices. Don't know once you include shipping.

I've done a lot of business with Sparks Toyota out of Myrtle Beach. They're pretty comparable on pricing and will price match.
