I am looking at tacomas. I came across an 06 Prerunner, v6, manual, towing package with 289k miles. It is at a dealer listed for 9,999. How concerned would you be with this with this mileage and price?

You could probably find a better deal with something that has 1/3 the millage for a few grand more...

Honestly, 289k is the most I've heard of on a second gen so.... no idea how well it's held up. I say go check it out and give us a report out on how it drives, any leaks, ect....

I saw a few 05 tacomas, 2wd, with 400k for sale. This trucks were used by service shops. Not sure what all had been replaced on trucks but still a good sign. I am not going to spend over 10k so most likely I will end up with an older tacoma. But I was considering this as an option. I will go check it out at least.

Where are you located? That'll help us help you find a better deal... but like Kyouto said, that is pretty high mileage for an 06... nearly 90k miles/year - that truck saw a lot of roads, and they're asking too much...

That truck has been ridden hard and put up wet. I wouldn't touch it for that price.

I just did a quick search on autotrader.com , years 2004 - 2006 and max price of $12,000 (since every vehicle's price is negotiable) and found 29 matches. Like you said, you'll most likely get into an older one, but there are plenty with MANY miles less than the one you're looking at. You're looking at the year, rather than the mileage - you're much better off getting one that's a couple of years older and has far fewer miles on it.

edmunds lists 06 with 289k at 13k for dealer.

Another higher mileage vehicle I found is a 2000 prerunner with 183k, xtra cab, trd, v6, auto. He said he just changed all belts, brakes, and had rotors done. Said he would take just under 6k but can't sell till next weekend. kbb list at 6300 and edmunds at 5763. I may try to offer 5,700 cash.

for something with that high mileage i'd be crawling all over that truck looking for flaws and making a list of things i would need to replace. Timing chain, all fluids, all belts, all filters, look for rust on the frame, cracked engine mounts/re-weld engine mount supports, brakes/rotors, greasing everything. Factor in the cost of that and then make an offer, the dealer prob got that truck for 3-5k trade.

That sure seems high to me. What price does it give you for the same truck, but with average miles, say 40,000 miles? I'd do it myself, but I don't know what options you selected, and I want an apple-to-apple comparison.

Edmunds takes off only around $1900 for mileage.

What does everyone think of the 2000 prerunner with 183k, xtra cab, trd, v6, auto. He said he just changed all belts, brakes, and had rotors done. Wants just under $6000.
