So my 2009 DCSB Sport recently started making this high pitch screech sound while in motion. It sounds exactly like the warning screech your brakes make when they get low. It can be heard in forward and reverse. I only hear it when rolling kinda slow with the windows down but once I get up to decent speed the traffic and wind is too loud to hear it anymore but I'm sure its still doing it.

My break pads are very low and need to be changed, but I thought they only make the warning sound when you depress the brakes because the pin grinds against the caliper? They shouldn't make the noise without depressing the brakes right? Anyone know what it could be??

    Brakes.

The pad is always resting on the rotor. Disc pads don't fully "retract" like drum brakes do. There's no spring, it is the small lateral runout on the rotors that pushes them back.

Most cars I've had, the noise goes away when pressing the pedal.

That's what I was hoping. Just wasn't too sure how that worked. I have the new pads already, just got to find the time to swap em out. Probably need to turn rotors as well. Got 51500 miles on her now so I think they lasted a decent time considering I use them pretty rough at times and do mostly stop n go driving. Thanks Rich

Make sure the pad retainer clips ain't rubbing on the wheels. That's what mine was doing. Made squeal mainly in reverse. Look between rotor and wheel see if the wire is touching your wheel
