Consider yourself lucky. The cheapest HPFP I've found online is from Longo Toyota at $850. I know of one dealership local to me that would charge you full retail for the part at $1,270.

Many of us are beset by this problem, and if it isn't covered under warranty it is an expensive item to fix.

So far my fix has just been to pump ethanol free. It is more expensive; the price has gone from $3.35 a gallon to $4+ in recent years. For anyone who has a truck that sits for extended periods ethanol free is the better option. If you are tuned the engine makes slightly more horsepower with higher octane, and a lot of ethanol free in my part of the country is 90+ octane.

Also, the TSB for this chirp was for 2016-217 Tacomas and it was covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles under the powertrain warranty. All of the trucks subject to this TSB would now be out of coverage.

The extended warranty customer service campaign is for fuel odor in the engine compartment and cabin of the vehicle due to fuel seepage from the HPFP and it is good for 10 years from the vehicles in-service date. It is unclear if this campaign replaces the HPFP or just the gaskets. My bet is just the gaskets.

I am one of the lucky ones that caught the issue and am outside of the coverage period. Ethanol free is the way.

Leveled with Bilstein 5100 shocks, Falken Rubitrek AT 265/75 tires, Redline hood struts, R4T tailgate lock, Matt Gecko LED strips in bed and under hood, WeatherTech hood guard, OEM bed mat, Husky floor mats, Carhart seat covers, Grille replacement with Toyota letters, Sony AX6000 head unit, OTT lite/mild tune, and an occasional splash of fuel additive.
I have a tune installed, and my truck ran better after the tune was fired up. Better acceleration and shifting. I usually buy gas at Sam’s Club or Exxon where I get a discount because of a car wash coupon. I put in 87 blended with whatever they put into it, and I have also put a tank or two of 85 in when it’s been available in elevated areas. I also add a small bottle of gas additive about every three fill ups. No good reason other than I’ve always added gas additive into every car or truck I’ve ever owned. Might not do anything for the vehicle, but it makes me feel better. All good with me and my Tacoma. Maybe I’m just lucky.

Found out on Friday that the Toyota enhanced warranty for the pump is limited to 60K miles. With 102K miles, we're screwed.

    That's an expensive pump!!!!

I'm in the same boat as you. That's why I'm using ethanol free fuel. When I'm using regular fuel it really is something how loud the fuel pump gets. Huge difference. No idea why this phenomenon occurs and I'd be interested to hear an explanation from an engineer.

I may be mistaken but isn’t the warranty extension for fuel odor/leak, not noise?
I got the notice in the mail last year and don’t recall seeing anything about noise, just fuel odor.

Correct. And it is unclear how the repair is made in all circumstances. If the issue is a small simple leak due to a gasket failure they will just repair the gasket and keep the original pump, leaving the noise.

    1) Please check the service bulletin I referenced for the warranty.
    2) Is the fuel odor for the basic fuel pump, not the high pressure fuel pump?
    3) I've never used flex fuel. Is there someway to get ethanol free fuel in the Midwest in the summer?

Fuel odor and seepage/leak service campaign is for the high pressure fuel pump.

Check out this website to find stations with ethanol free fuel: https://www.pure-gas.org/

https://www.pure-gas.org/maps (direct link to the map page)

They also have apps for android and iphone.

Hey ToyodaSun, you are correct - fuel odor is now present. Thanks for the link, too. There's not a gas station near me listed; however, I see Sheetz all over Ohio have ethanol free gas and they are building one in the town nearest me, and another Sheetz is almost ready to open on my commuter route - yay!!

I am hearing some chirping sound on the start on my 2023 13K tacoma. I don't see any other symptoms. I will try to record it and post
