Oh man the pump is screaming on hot days especially. Not a small chirp at all its embarrassing and I can't even drive with the windows down. It's definitely not something i can live with. There are videos I posted earlier in the thread but it's much worse than that in real life

I've put Shell 93 a couple of tanks and it barely does anything.

Who knows lol. Some sources say she'll 91 and 93 octane are enthonal free some sources say they actually contain more. Most sources agree all gas in Canada contains between 5% and 10% ethonal.

REGARDLESS.. my fuel pump spring is fucked up even if I'm burning jet fuel in my Tacoma.

Hoping someone can source a high pressure fuel pump for less than $2000 because that's the cheapest I've found in Canada.

I found one off a 2022 truck written off. He wanted $100 but apparently there is no easy way to test the spring.

Tacoma won't replace it at all? What if you claim the gas smell?

    Hey guys,

2017 Tacoma 4x4 SR 123,xxx miles. Dreaded "chirping/peeping" started a couple thousand miles ago. I purchased the extended warranty when I bought the truck (with 121,xxx miles on it) so off to Toyota I went. Fast forward a bit, they replaced the idler pulley. Chirping returned immediately and I only just today found the time to bring it back.

At this point it has all the symptoms of the HPFP chirping as talked about in the TSB. This time Toyota said it is the tensioner pulley, so they're replacing that next.

I guess I'll let them keep replacing things until we get to the HPFP...

Brought the truck back today so they could replace a THIRD pulley chasing the sound down. This after I had told them about the HPFP and the TSB from 2018. They replaced the pulley, returned the truck to me, sound was still present.

Immediately brought it back to the service bay and they sent a tech out. Short story long, they're ordering me a new HPFP.

So this chirping sound, my wife can hear it but I can't. It's out of warranty.

When does it HAVE to be replaced?

    Is it safe to drive?

TSBs are not created because there is a safety concern. Recalls are created when there is a safety concern.

As far as I have seen TSBs are created for things that are not manufacturing defects, that lead to a failure (this not covered under warranty), but enough people have complained about the issue/annoyance that Toyota grants a free repair.

They might also create a TSB for a known issue covered by warranty in order to expedite the warranty repair process. This is speculation on my part.
