hey everybody, as a new member and being relatively new to trucks I was hoping for some advice. I have a 2000 Tacoma 3.4 Trd off road ext. cab. I'm looking for some help as I went from an ls1 Camaro to this, I really want to make a truck that can haul ass on the street, do some light drifting, as well as being decent off road. I bought it with a 3" lift and slightly oversized tires and I'm thinking of ditching the lift and putting on taller rubber (I know it seems backwards). I don't expect this to be anything like my Camaro was on the street, or wheel like a tube buggy but I was hoping that you guys might have some advice on what I can do. Thanks!

Which one? And will I have to run premium fuel or can I keep running regular?

I understand it won't be Camaro fast but I want to be able to run with stock hondas and other commuter cars. Clean looking truck, where did you get your supercharger and do I need the 7th injector kit to go with it?

Also I live in California so it has to be smog legal, unfortunately.

TRD no longer sells the supercharger, but the manufacturer Magnuson still produces them and they can be purchased through dealers like URD. I don't believe Magnuson has gone through the process of certifying "their" supercharger as CARB legal, although when it was sold through TRD it was CARB legal. Don't ask me why that makes any sense.
And yes, if you go that route, definitely get the URD 7th injector kit.

Alright I'll look into it, I know it would drastically effect handling, but would locking my rear diff cause any damage on the street? I have already done the gray wire mod, and I'm aware of the dangers in regards to handling(I've driven a few cars/trucks with welded diffs) but could this break my locker or just wear my tires?

Only two tacomas should be drifted, x-runners, or slammed 5lugs. If you want to off-road as well, whatever you build won't excel at both.

I know it's impossible to make a great preforming drift/off road truck but I was hoping that I could do some mods to help both. I know it sounds ridiculous but you have to admit it would be really cool to have a true dual purpose truck

I'm not a big ford guy, but I still have the ls1/T56 combo Camaro. But I'd like to keep it Toyota in hopes of maintaining some reliability and because I only have this as a daily driver so I can't do a engine swap

Lol my truck can out run BMWs. I rebuilt it myself and yes a 7th injector kit is much needed but not necessary. Don't know if they are CARB legal.

haha nah man i gotcha, im a ford man but love a yoter cause theyll last 1/2 a million miles no problem. my dad had a 1980 pickup with the 22R motor and with nearly 500,000 and got rid of it cause i didnt fit in it anymore. 6'4 in a single cab wasn't too comfortable haha. i would take it across country right now though in a heartbeat of we still had it. loved that truck.

Never lock the diff on dry pavement. The TRDs with the locker came with a caution sticker on the driver door with certain guidelines to prevent damage.

Alright thanks for the advice everybody. One last question what mud terrains are recommended that won't cost an arm and a leg probably 30-33"

While it's not a mud tire, I really like the St Maxx as an all around tire.
And another vote for the supercharger. Just got mine as an early graduation gift to myself and all I can say is it's awesome, especially with the 5-speed.

I think when he says drifting he's talking about leaving out the gas station from talking with the buds, big dip tucked in, loud ass exhausts, and hammered down leaving out that sumbitch sideways.

You know all them good ol boys in v8 with glass packs doing it

Yes getting sideways out of a gas station, or into the school parking lot it what I'd like to be able to do without using the handbreak. Are there any reliability concerns with a supercharger? My truck has 261xxx but a new motor at 204xxx and I believe it came with the 2.7 but I cannot confirm that.
