Agreed. I really miss the consistency of my 2005. I'd get 19-20 mpg all day every day. With my 2016, I'll get anywhere from 13-21 depending on how it feels that day. Currently averaging 17.5 over 15k miles.

    I agree! It's a truck (4x4) & it's geared like a truck. I drive the f**k out of mine & I don't care what gas mpg I get.

Pretty sure the 4.0 in the 4Runner is the same engine that was in the Gen 2 Tacoma, only with tweaked valve timing to give it a little more horsepower. After having driven a 2010 4Runner for six years, I can tell you my Gen 3 Tacoma that is averaging almost 23 miles a gallon is getting better mileage.

Toyota could have gone with a larger displacement motor and still got great MPG. The much heavier Silverado with 4.3 V6 gets V8-esque torque and 22 MPG highway. Seems smaller buzzier motors only return good MPG if you drive them super gently.
I get that Toyota does not want to situate power output too close to the Tundra but it's a shame there is no low-end on the 2016.

    None... sigh
Drove from north central TN to Savannah, GA and averaged around 23 mpg. Don't have pics of the dash read out but that's what I remember.

Everyone I know that has a Silverado does not get anywhere near the advertised mpg. My son had a new Malibu 4cyl that got the same mileage as my 4.6L Tundra. He sold Malibu after finding out for $365 that the whole front end of the Chevy had to come off to replace a burned out headlamp. Guy at gas station with a little Chevy made in Bolivia had to buy it because he couldn't afford to drive his Silverado 50 miles to work everyday.

Prius you have to remove the front bumper as well to change the bulb. There are a lot of cars that you have to do this. A shop is going to say its an hour and half of labor plus the cost of parts. Honesty its about 12 screws and a couple of clips to pop and its off.
