I have had my truck for around 7K miles and love everything about it except for driving on road trips. At any highway speed between 70-80. When using the cruise control the transmission will never shift out of 4th gear, or it will shift between 4th and 5th, and never shift into 6th, unless I trick it by pressing quickly on the gas pedal. And I experience similar performance without the cruise control on, other than I can get it go into 6th downhill or on very flat roads by playing tricks with the gas pedal.

I am getting around 20 MPG in the city and 14-16 MPG on the highway.

    This is ridiculous!

Anyone have any suggestions other than trading it in for something different?

These trucks could definitely use more torque at lower rpms.

The tires are going to drop your mileage, and not give you accurate mpg readings.

Instead of buying a tune, you could try S mode and ETC. S5 and ETC will fix 90% of your complaints without spending a dime.

Cruise is just brutal in these trucks with the auto in D. I have all the latest TSB's and like my truck, but CC is pretty bad. I can typically beat CC in D by about 2-4 mpg by using my foot instead.

Mine used to do this. Somewhere between the tranny TSB, higher octane fuel and a Borla exhaust it has gotten noticeably better. I rarely hit 4th on the interstate now.

Yep, not looking forward to my first road trip scheduled for next month, from ABQ to DEN. Good news is it’s only 425 miles each way... bad news is I-25 has two high mountain passes to go through en route. From what info I’ve read on TW, I’m expecting a slower drive, painful A/T shift dance, part time in cruise control (when it flat), and poor MPG... and at the end of the day, completely pissed off.

    Managing my expectations :annoyed:
