For anyone in or near California: (or potentially anyone else that want's to travel which is well worth it imo)

I know this thread is pretty old, but figured I'd post info on Mt. Whitney. The lottery to hike this mountain is open till March 15th and is only open once per year. It's a pretty tough hike and I'd suggest only applying for it if you know that you are physically able to hike up and down a mountain, especially one that is 14,500 ft.

You can mark up to 15 different dates for the lottery and invite as many as 15 people for each of those days. You can select a day hike or over-night hike. If you do that day hike I recommend you start really early (MN or 1 AM early)

Pic I snapped a couple years ago when I first went, in the snow.. Go in the Summer, snow is beautiful and all, but creates plenty of new challenges.

Passage 1 of Arizona Trail, and 804 mile trail running South to North from Mexico to Utah up the middle of AZ. I was section hiking the trail on my weekends off. I torn a tendon and ruptured a ligament in my ankle at mile 80 requiring surgery. Will resume this fall

Hiked 19 miles this particular day, just a touch over 4k elevation gain with about 3800 of it coming in the first 4.5 miles. Was blowing around 35 with gusts close to 50 at times.

Started at sunrise at the lower right edge of that mountain range. After the initial climb it is a very pleasant hike along the summit ridgeline before descending back down to 4500 feet

I always like showing these picks because it is the exact opposite of what people think AZ is
