So maybe this isn't news to anyone here, but when I was looking at getting a 3rd gen I was under the impression that the hill start assist feature was only available on the AT trucks. It didn't make sense to me as that feature was always reserved for vehicles with a manual transmission to help out people that can't handle 3 pedals.

I never noticed it on the two test drives I did since there were not hill stops, but just yesterday I realized that my truck actually does have hill start assist. It threw me off because I was so used to swapping pedals quickly that I was surprised when the truck hesitated to start while releasing the clutch.

I had this in my 2012 Subaru Impreza and found it useful in some cases and not so helpful in others. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable it or toggle it with a switch mod?

My OR definitely does not have hill assist.

My 2017 TRD sport MT definetly does have hill assist. I live in a very hilly area and it works very well. Really is a nice feature in a manual transmission vehicle

Interesting.... I verified this in my driveway last night. I have a fairly steep driveway and I stop at the bottom to grab the mail. Brake on, clutch in, put the truck in 1st. Release the brake and hold the clutch in, the truck does not move for at least 2 seconds. After about 2s I can feel the trucks brakes release and it rolls back.

I've never done a purposeful test on my OR. But I have rolled back numerious times without engaging reverse to park. I would suspect the OR doesn't have it.

I haven't done any other testing, but on my Subaru the hill holder would not activate unless you were completely stopped and *i think* had the clutch fully depressed.

I think TRD Sports have them but Pros and ORs do not.

Strange decision by Toyota but hey, I ain't Seatbelt Mike.

I think it is because of the style brake booster we have on OR and Pro for not having it.

I find it to be wildly inconsistant in my tacoma to the point i wasnt sure i had it or just sticky brakes. Sometimes it fails to engage when im on a hill and it has caused me to stall in flat parking lots. Dealer said its all good though so yeah must be in my head

this is why these nannies make no sense to me. why buy an MT vehicle and have these kinds of nannies? VSC i can understand but HSA? just buy an AT if you want a box doing the driving.

If it had a foot operated parking brake it would be nice to have. And it is a nice feature when it works. But i cant rely on it because i have rolled back before being slow on the clutch expecting my truck to hold. And ill still ise the hand brake when on a steep hill in traffic because i like control

Offroad doesn't have it (thankfully). I'm not sure why they would put it on a 4x4 Manual truck. Having that delay would not be good IMO in many situations.

This would be nice at the boat ramp. Still scares me everytime I pull my boat out of the water that I'm going to be that guy that sinks his truck.

I just use the handbrake if the incline is that dramatic and there is a concern for slipping backwards.

Honestly, I would rather just disable it if possible. I guess it is a useful feature, but the parking/emergency brake accomplishes the same thing. I did it that way on my 2nd gen and now with the lever brake on the 3rd gen it's even easier.

Yes, it is on the Sport and frankly I could care less if I have it or not. I'm used to driving MT, so when it engages & then disengages is still a bit odd to me. Just a thing that never really fazes me. Cheers

These trucks really need to have an "expert mode" that disables all the boolsheet, and the ability to lock diff in 2WD.
