I'll believe it when TOYOTA.com or TOYOTA.ca has official info, in the meantime it's all rumours.

Correct. If i needed a diesel to haul stuff... it sure as shit wouldnt be in a mid size truck with a 5ft bed.... 2500/f250 sized truck at a minimum. Those who are towing 6500lbs toy haulers with their mid size trucks are WAY over doing it IMO.

Now like stated, if the diesel option was pulling 30 to 35+ mpg.... i would have a reason to buy.

The GM mid size diesel trucks are not selling very good. Dealer said 1 in every 1000. Hard to pay for a mid size when you can buy a basic 3/4 ton truck. Maybe if it was getting 35+ mpg maybe. The GM still can't pull much more than a gas anyway in the mid size, they don't weigh enough.

After towing with the Taco, and getting around 8-10 MPG will pulling around 5k pounds, a Diesel engine would not drop the MPG nearly as bad as a gas engine. If you tow a lot it woul be a good buy.

No. Go look at them in person. GM has the lead in interiors. Toyota is lacking.

The coolest thing about the Hilux - for me - is that it would bring back to the U.S. market a toyota truck that is small and lighter weight.

A piece of shit wrapped in fine Italian leather is still a piece of shit. You hate tacomas, yet troll around on a Tacoma forum. Every post you make is anti Tacoma. That's fine if you don't like them, that's your deal. I don't like chevys, but I certainly don't have an account on a chevy forum running my mouth off about how terrible they are.

If (and its a big "IF") a diesel is sold in the US in a Tacoma it will strictly be an "ego" purchase for 99% of the buyers. Diesels, in general, are sold at a much higher MSRP than gas versions. The extra cost of the diesel engine will be so high that the payback period from the higher mps will be very long. Unless an owner puts on very high miles per year it simply will not be worth the money to get a diesel. Certainly not at present when diesel costs more per gallon than regular.
At present, all discussion about the diesel is just for arguments sake. Right now, the diesel in the Tacoma is just vaporware.

Exactly. Everyone wants a diesel option till they see the price tag. When you are at 45k for a mid size pickup with a diesel, why not just get a gas half ton that will haul more, tow more, and get similar gas mileage?

While I like my small diesels, modern emissions controls make them not worth it.

A proper variable vane bi-turbo on the 3.5 motor, otoh...
