May well have been in non domestic markets. US market FJs got the RA60 6speed manual just like the Tacoma.

All Information I have is from what I have physically had my hands on. I am all about boots on ground research when it comes to conversion parts.

    Thanks Jeff.

This transmission had the same pilot shaft issues that the Tacomas had. I fought that fight with my Sandstorm FJ. The throwout bearing issues drove me to get rid of both manual transmission FJ cruisers I have owned. Traded the first on the second, the second one an auto and gave it to the wife...

Yeah those issues make me glad my RA62 has a completely different clutch setup (pull-type release bearing).

The RA was a great transmission other than the throwout pilot being cast aluminum and made into the housing.

Maybe you should stock up on RC transmissions in the two 4x4 Hilux flavors offered... lol

    RC60(F/J) is used with the 2GD (2.4L Diesel), and 7GR (3.5L Gas)
    RC61(F) is used with the 1GD (2.8L Diesel), 1KD (3.0L Diesel), and 2KD (2.5L Diesel)
RC62F is used with the 2GR (3.5L Gas)

The RC60F and RC61F (4WD) use the same extended shifter housing. The RC60, RC61 (2WD) and RC62F (4WD) use the more direct shifter housing (though the RC60/61 and RC62F do not share the same part). The RC60J (2WD) uses a remote-mount cable-type shifter setup.

1GD, 2GD, 1KD, and 2KD all use the same bellhousing. The 2GR and 7GR use a different bellhousing.

The clutch setups are a bit different as well, as one would expect. I haven't been able to verify completely that the splines are the same on the input shaft, but I'd say I'm about 85% sure they're the same based on some parts cross-referencing.

The 2GR/7GR does not have a pilot bearing installed, however on the diesels they do install a pilot bearing in the crankshaft. The reason for that is, I believe, that the GD/KD engines are used with other transmissions (Aisin AR-5/Toyota R-series) that do require a pilot bearing. Something similar happened with the IS250 and Mark X with the 6MT, they installed pilot bearings in the MT engines even though the RA-series does not use the pilot bearing. When I did the 2GR/RA62 swap in my IS, I did not add the pilot bearing to the engine. There's no point.

If anyone has other questions, I can try to find information.

    Jeff

My 05 Tundra has the RA60 with a 4.10 rear differential. OEM tires are 29.5" and it turns at 2600rpm at 65mph.

I had forgotten about the Tundra.

The new Hiace has a cable shift version of the RC60.

Yup, the RC60J is assembled by Aisin Japan using parts from Aisin Thailand. It's an interesting cable setup too, with the cables going all the way to the extension housing instead of in the side of the main case like the cable-shifted G, W, and R transmissions. Much easier to swap between cable-driven and direct-shifted with a setup like that.

I've been looking into building a cable-shift AWD R154 setup to use behind a 1JZ/2JZ using an electromagnetic clutch to control front/rear bias. It's in the infancy stage at this point, but the pieces exist or will be relatively easy to manufacture.

The RC60F transmission I have is 33030-0KE50. The RC61F seems to have a good part number now, too. 33030-0KE40

When you get some time could you get us some more detailed pictures of the RC60F?

Straight on from front, rear, both sides, and down into the shift tower with extension removed.

When do you plan on the swap?
Does it look like the trans case is indeed the same or will this require an internals swap like building a hybrid R series trans?

Driveshafts are out, just need to drop the stock trans. Other parts of life, as usual, have taken precedence.

A Magnuson Supercharger will be driving it.
