Sorry I have not been back to the thread, work has been really busy. I really enjoy the Hilux updates from everyone. Great pics keeping them coming. I need to post up up some more of mine.

Here is a 2wd Hilux. I saw on the road. Gotta love it. Talking about maximizing the bed space.

Wow! Really the Thai taste is out of the ordinary. The more plastic the more beautiful for them.
What I like about them are the products for performance in hilux.

Yeah Thai folk really seem to love plastic and stickers or decals. I guess it sells. That'd be the first thing I'd yank if I bought it. HAHA. Now this was the base model truck, 2wd. Not sure what the top of the line model would offer. When I further looked, the Ford Ranger has the same deal. a Big Ford Logo in the grill but in the US they do that as well.

Always makes me laugh when people bash toyota here in the states, saying you need a 1 ton if your gonna actually do anything other then get groceries, and then you see pictures of this overseas showing a mid-size doing more than any F-350 you've ever seen.

Also it helps that road laws aren't a thing in asia

I know it is really funny. I had many friends that felt they need those big 1 tons to do a job and they load 10 bales of hay or load an ATV. This little Hilux is carrying 5X that load. But in fairness to your point, Yes SEAsia doesn't have 2,157,114 road laws constraining people and making them conform like lemmings. In fact I seldom ever see police unless at a roadside checkpoint. They do not have highway patrol hiding to pass out tickets or give you a ticket for tinted glass or modified exhaust or lifted etc etc.

I'm thinking of changing the wheels of my truck. I do not know if I put 17" or 18". What do your think?
I made this assembly on top of the original wheels with 275/65R18 tires.
My fear is in offset and wheel width. If you put 17" would like to mount 285/70R17 or 295/70R17. If you put 18" would like to mount 275/70R18.

Yeah Me too. I took as much off as I could. Changed front grill, most decals are gone, replaced rear bumper, took molding off on the tailgate.

So I ate up an inner CV boot on my 718km road trip last week. I have 28kms on the truck so that went fast. In asking around here and I got an interesting response that the quality of the CV boot material here in SE Asia is not as good a rubber as used on the US Tacoma models. Now I have no way to verify this but it doesn't make sense that Toyota would have 2 quality controls but thinking about it, it might be where they are made and installed so there may be some truth to it. I will say I had the same lift kit I have now on my Hilux on my 2014 Tacoma and never ate any. I had about 45kms on the truck in the US.

So keep an eye out on your Hilux. I am curious. I am doing some research now. All part of modifying. The cost to fix here in Thailand $51 USD (labor included)

haha sorry, I did not pay attention at the time of writing.

I already had problems with my CV but it was a fishing line that stuck and tore, but nothing of problems with dryness until today. What I'm having a big problem with is the regulation of the caster of my truck. As the caster is adjusted the stabilizer bar rubs on the king shocks, I've adjusted it 2 times and when I go to the farm it comes back deregulated.

Ahh the fun in modifying...HAHA. Interesting on your caster issue. Is it the shock diameter causing the interference?

As it turns out the shop just called me and the other upper CV boot has developed a small tear as well so I am having both replaced. While I looked at the front driveshaft angles it does not seem all that severe. I do however think that I might have done this by driving very fast. I was going 75 to 80 most of the time on the open freeway. Plus lots of up and down bouncing from some road work areas. So they could have gotten very hot and then a few bounces stretching them and they tore. The root cause is clearly the lift kit and the angle but that's all part of it. Nothing back yet on the boot material quality. I am looking to see if there are higher quality larger CV boots available to install. These boots do not need to be that small and tight. Plenty room for an over sized one. Its just a protector for the CV assy.

    More to come.

Got truck back Saturday. I had them keep the parts as I wanted to look at them. Clearly the boots are a much harder rubber then what I remember on my Tacoma in the states so maybe there are some truths about different materials used based on demographics.

I will watch these closely this time to see.

The total cost to fix was $128 for 4 CV boots, 2 inner hub bearing dust seals power wash and labor (Plus a courtesy wash) Pretty cheap all things considered. I would imagine in the US it would be 4 times that ( if not more)

Actually, here in paraguay we have hilux version argentina and thai version. As we also have Colorado Brazilian version and Thai version. The Thai version is always cheaper and they say they can not handle heavy service like the other versions.
It looks like it matches what you said about the CV material.
