I spend my vacations in South America and I rented a Hilux with diesel motor and the truck is absolutly incredible, excellent, I was doing off road on the Andes Mountains and I feel like I was riding an spider.

I never had seen that video, classic. My truck started up after this happened. I was pretty amazed.

i drove a 2000 hilux as my work truck for months while deployed. you could not ask for a better all around vehicle in africa. diesel engine was great. clearance was great considering that the average "trip" to the wilds, park or nature preserve or zoo had us driving over all kinds of holes, bumps, ruts, gaps, dirt, gravel, blocks, washboard roads, roots, rocks, and any other thing you can imagine. mine had a 6" suspension lift, snorkel, ac/dc converter, built in air pump, high boy jack, and two spares. take food and water and some extra fuel and there is nowhere you cant get to or back from.

i would take that hilux over anything!

When I visit Guatemala, they absolutely love and adore Toyota trucks, mostly the older late 80s and early 90s trucks, not to many Tacomas there but the Hilux with the 4cyl diesel is the workhorse... Nice truck for sure...

You can drive for hours and hen you'll see a litte car dealer on the side of the road with umpteen number of Toyota 4x4 trucks all decked out in stuff waiting to be sold...

This is one we drove in Guat, well the driver did, lol...

Dam straight the rest of the world uses and loves toyotas. They don't have a garage or repair shop on every corner like we do here. They need a real truck that won't break down every other week. The trucks they use are also built in Japan (wish mine was). Unlike here they need snorkels and diff locks on a daily basis. It's funny how people here need a 6" lift to go to the mall but in Australia and SA they go through shit a trucks not meant to go through with no lift at all.

I had the chance to compare the two side by side back in 06 in Germany. All the Germans wanted the Tacoma because it rode better, had more power, more options and aftermarket goodies, cupholders, and all the Americans wanted the Hilux for more load capacity, the D4D diesel, and simple cab controls. The diesel is a turd on the autobahn, but gets the job done in 4lo.

The tacoma looks way better and it would be nice to have a diesel. I would love to have a machine gun mount in the bed though. Lol saw some pics years ago and it would look neat.

Hilux hands down. But I'd like an older one for hunting.

If you haven't seen "how to kill a toyota" watch it. It will make you a believer. This is part one. Part 2 is like a cherry on top.

Over here in Afghanistan I've been driving a Hilux everyday..they sure do handle abuse well. So far the Hilux is more fun to drive but then again I don't thrash my Tacoma like this.
