Anyone else experience some hip pain when driving their Taco? I've worked on adjusting my seat and it seems better with the seat unusually further back than I normally sit.

Recently I tried with sitting close to leave some ample space behind my seat, and it's started to become an issue.

This doesn't seem to happen when driving my other vehicles so I'm wondering if it's the sitting angle or something.

(I'm in my 40's and typically don't have hip pain)

I do suffer from hip pain. My 09 caused no issues. My 18 has caused no issues but under 1k miles in 12 weeks. However doing some mods has caused hip and back pain issues, go figure.

Do you keep a wallet in the rear pocket on the side that is hurting? If so, remove the wallet while driving and see if that helps. Wallets are known to cause problems.

I always keep my wallet in my front pocket for this reason. I also carry a skinny wallet however so its thinner than the fob. Sitting on your wallet throws off your posture, even if only by fractions of an inch. Over time this can cause strain.

Yup!! I drive with wallet in front pocket religiously. Two reasons: cause I drive a truck for living and harder for pick pocket/falling out.

As said a few times the best mod I have so far is the aluminum 1 inch seat spacer . No more low back/ hip pain for me. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...cers-for-seat-mod.563843/page-6#post-18780626 Give this a try .

No hip pain, but my right leg gets stiff/sore after about 15 minutes. My guess is that it's because of the car-like seating in the Tacoma compared to the full-size pickups and Jeeps I've driven for the past 30+ years. My thigh slopes upward from hip to knee, instead of level or sloping downward in all my past vehicles.

I was ... 26? when I got my Tacoma and it was KILLING my hip. Never had hip pain before. I think it was the bolsters bugging me on the lower part of the seat. I ended up putting a couple layers of foam sewed into some fabric and placed under my seat cover to raise my butt up a bit. It helped immensely. After a few years the foam squished to nothing and I took it out and haven't had any issue since. I'm thinking either my body got used to it, or the bolsters are wearing in after years of me sitting in it.

So glad that I found this thread as I have been suspicious of my hip and back pains being related to the Tacoma seating. My chiropractor and general doctor are leaning towards an MRI to see if any nerve issues were present in lower back but I am going to hold off until I can give the seat spacers a try that are for sale by @olecoot.

Very odd that I NEVER had the type of hip issues like I do now after an hour behind the wheel of the Tacoma. ZERO issues driving other cars for longer periods....

Yeah, if I was in the truck for more than 40 minutes I had serious pain. I'd be moving the seat forward, backward, angling it all over every 5 minutes trying to make it go away.

I have to agree with y’all on this. The dart I traded had better seats. Regardless, I feel like I’m lounging, not sitting. I’m 5’7” and find that on short distances it’s not so bad but I’m now commuting 66 miles a day (promotion) and find that I almost can’t wait to get out of it.

But to be fair, I did test drive and knew what I was getting into. Test drive lasted about 30 minutes and was so excited that even if the truck gave me an STD I’d still would have bought it!

My 2 cents. No seat in any other vehicle I've ever owned is as bad for my comfort as the Taco seat. True for my 2017, just like it was true for my 2011. When you pay 40K for a truck and it doesn't have leather or fully adjustable power seats, you know you've been screwed. If not for the list of positives for the Tacoma, I'd never look at one again. Toyota is where Sciatica meets the road.....

I have started taking a bath towel, rolling tight and sticking it between my lower back and seat, sounds nuts but on longer trips its really helped me and at 6'4" the Taco's cabin is a little cozy anyway... but still love the truck!!

OMG. Guys, not all asses are the same. Not all seats are the same. I'm sorry that some of you have pains when driving the Tacoma. I'm quite sure I can go to any auto forum and find the exact same topic because unfortunately, some seats are just going to hurt some asses.
It's not Toyota's fault, nor is it Ford's or GM's fault.
So, if you got a fix for this OP (shaving the cushion, spacers, upholstery shop, etc) then help him out. Don't blame Toyota because they can't make a seat to fit every possible ass.
I've had 34 vehicles in my driving career. It only took me one bad choice on seat comfort to teach me to test drive the heck out of every vehicle before buying. Tacoma seats fit me great. My wife's old CRV seats hurt me but not her. Seriously, it's all about finding the right seat for your body, don't assume every seat will fit just because you like the vehicle.
