    Code:
A [B]police state[/B] is one in which the government exercises rigid
and repressive controls over the social, economic, and political
life of the population. A police [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_%28polity%29"]state[/URL] typically exhibits elements
of [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totalitarianism"]totalitarianism[/URL] and [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_control"]social control[/URL], and there is usually little
or no distinction between the law and the exercise of [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_power"]political power[/URL]
    by the [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_%28government%29"]executive[/URL].
The inhabitants of a police state experience restrictions on
their mobility, and on their freedom to express or communicate
political or other views, which are subject to police monitoring or
enforcement. Political control may be exerted by means of a
[URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_police"]secret police[/URL] force which operates outside the boundaries
    normally imposed by a [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitutional_state"]constitutional state[/URL].
That seems to be a pretty accurate description of the united states. Give you a little bit of freedom, to fool you, but not really let you do anything of consequence.

If you happen to *be* somewhere, or even SUSPECTED of being somewhere, that *something* happened to happen, you are automatically assumed to have been involved in it... you're a SUSPECT and have to defend yourself. Your movements are then monitored or controlled.

So good luck with carrying heat and a dog. Someone gets shot and you automatically become a suspect because the qwikeemart clerk saw the bulge in your jacket from the gun you're dragging around. You end up spending several hours under a hot light being interrogated, those few rights you thought you had... non existent.

Most people go several years without interacting with a police officer, including positive or negative experiences. Either it's time to adjust your tinfoil hat, or you should stop doing whatever you're doing to be "harassed". If you speed and get pulled over, they aren't harassing you.

Its different when its your 90 year old grandmother who is being harassed.

BTW: last time I got nailed for speeding was in New York state on I90. I think I was doing about 20 over, about 7 years ago. I went back later on to court to see if I could get it reduced or eliminated, chatted with the cop who pulled me over before going in front of the judge, really nice guy actually, offered to trade me the 20 over for a couple of *parking tickets*. Naturally, I accepted that, and so did the judge.

No, speeding tickets aren't the problem. Hanging around the pool with the wife on a Saturday afternoon and having a couple of a**hole cops jump over the fence (read: trespass) to deliver 3 traffic tickets over some crash that happened in front of my house MONTHS before on a day I wasn't even *in the country*, and having to spend over a thousand dollars to defend myself against it... all because some idiot kid that hit a FIRE HYDRANT gave the cops my license plate number and claimed that I'd backed into her... THAT is what really twists my view of the police.

Are you planning on leaving us with "my 90 year old grandmother is being harassed" to gather sympathy, or are you planning on explaining further? Has your grandmother skipped out on her taxes for 10 years? Does she drive like a 90 year old and cause problems?

I also don't believe your story about trading a speeding ticket for a few parking tickets. I bet you're full of stories.

Could possibly be that the insurance company/police are investigating the "hit and run"

His insurance could think it was an inside job in order to use the funds for mods while only paying his low deductable instead of the 2k+ it would cost him out of pocket.

Happened to a friend of mine and they actually looked on the forum he was a member of to see if their suspicions were true.

    LMAO!!
Yeah, I sure did show up in court to make those "asshats look like fools". Cost $1000 to bring two lawyers with me, the charges were a bit more significant than I wanted to risk no matter how bulletproof the case was. 9 points, dangerous driving. I don't regret spending the money to reduce the risk. I should point out, I'm not a particularly strong public speaker.

And yes, I certainly did file a complaint.

As far as NK, I agree, it sure seems to be bad there and wouldn't try to make comparisons with them, not only because everything presented about them suggests that its very bad, but also because an awful lot of the information we get out of there is propaganda, I really wouldn't want to judge the situation there without a credible source.

So, it would seem, is OZ-T.

In fact, I would guess about 10% of visitors here are, given the differing populations.

    I hope that's not a crime....

To be honest, I usually just lump the US and Canada together. There are more similarities than differences.

Shemp, I see you edited right when I posted to add that last paragraph. I would be pissed at the kid who lied and gave your license plate number instead of the police. The police go with whatever information they are given if it makes sense. A traffic violation probably wouldn't be investigated too much if there was a supposed witness. In this case, there was a (false) witness who put you and your vehicle at the crime scene. I would have insisted the teen be charged with false reporting after you cleared yourself, and he may have been if you filed a complaint. And they aren't trespassing when they are trying to serve you paperwork. Obviously, if they can tell you're in the back swimming, you wouldn't answer the doorbell. My neighbors swim quite a bit, and I can always hear yelling and laughing 3 houses away.

You still haven't explained the 90 year old comment.

That is *almost* a fair statement, but I get what you're saying. The big problem, however, is that the cops DID trespass, and they did NOT do any form of investigation.

And I'm not going to. Sorry to disappoint.
