These pictures are why I put on an ARB.

Also I smacked one in my 2013 and it was like 7k.

Turkey is nothing to laugh at.
Pretty much like hitting a 20 pound bowling ball at speed.
A guy I know nailed one with his GTO. He almost lost control when It hit the windshield.

I hit one on my way to work last week. Luckily it was a little one, and I steered around most of it.

Not sure if I ran over any part of it but there was a nice streak of dust wiped off my passenger side, no damage.

As for trucks not being made like they used to, my friend hit a decent size doe with his nearly 20 year old Silverado, fucked it all up. He has a Tacoma now

Hit a deer last fall. $7000 damage and Bambi walked away. I was going about 35.
Yours is gonna be more than mine was I think.
Hidden damage and my front fender being pushed back into the passenger door drove the cost up even though it didn't look all that bad. I lost my radiator when it was impaled by a piece of plastic. Also just found a very large screw driver the body shop dropped between the engine and frame. Lucky it didnt fall out this past year.taco wreak 051.jpg

OPs description of the different outcomes show why you shouldn't try to avoid obstacles at speed. Plow through a deer at speed limit? Damage to truck and rubber side stays down. Try to avoid flying deer at speed limit? Why am I upside-down?

I busted a whitetail in VA at about 60 in my 2011. Did $5200 in damage. This was four years ago. Put an ARB on it like a week after I got the truck back and have barely seen a deer since.

I've been wondering how much protection those would offer if you hit a deer. Height of the deer's body at time of contact and its weight obviously play a huge role in amount of damage but a steel bumper would be better than the stock bumper. More so with some solid bull bars.

I hit a deer three years ago in my 02 Tacoma. It was a pretty small one, bumper height, hit it doing around 40-45. Never found the deer so it was able to run off, and about $3500 damage to the truck. Was definitely thankful it wasn't a bigger one.

I saw the results of a deer being hit at 55 MPH, flying through the air over a median strip and impacting a compact car going in the opposite direction several years ago. The car's windshield had a rectangular hole in front of the steering wheel that a part of the deer passed through and hit the driver. I saw the poor guy take his last breaths as the EMT's and cops arrived. It was at Christmas time and Have Yourself A Merry Christmas was playing on his radio when he passed.

Glad everyone on here who's hit a deer is alive and well to talk about!

I hit a tumbleweed with my Passat a few years back here in Phoenix. Chipped my paint a little but mostly buffed out. I am thankful.

Not in a Taco, but I lucked out in my Jeep a couple years back. Christmas night, one of those oversized forest rats jumped out right in front of us and mainly scared the shit out of my wife. The Jeep was lifted enough and had a heavy duty bumper that I knocked the deer over and drove over it. Hopefully your truck can be saved. It's sad to see the damage to the truck, but good to hear everyone walked away.
