Just got rear ended by a little ol Lexus. Smashed them up good, but my damage is only bumper, maybe some, trailer hitch connections, and a camper shell back glass. Wondering what else I need to be on the look out for? Going to take it to Caliber Collison repair shop here soon. Anything I should request? Love my Tacoma!

Do a 4 wheel alignment check to see if the truck is still straight. They may also call it a thrust angle alignment check.

The trailer hitch on these trucks hangs below the frame and applies a lot of leverage in a rear end collision with car. A quick way to check for damage is to inspect the body lines between the bedsides and the cab. Another method is to measure your wheel base, if it's not factory spec or it's different from right to left something is bent.

Unless you know and trust the Caliber franchise manager, you might shop another vendor.

They are kinda like going to HD for lunch on a Saturday because they have a hot dog stand set up when you really have a craving for a proper Chicago dog

We see a lot of buckled frames from hits like that, so proceed with caution.

    Agree all in!
We see a lot of hitch hits that actually bend the frame!
    Find a good shop!!!

I've been driving it since and seems ok, but I know that doesn't necessarily mean it's not buckled or bent. I don't know any good shops and am just using Caliber because it's close, convenient, and on the State Farm Insurance selected list. Anyone know a better shop in NW Houston around Cypress?

Happened to me....The other guys insurance paid me $2800 dollars. Caliber Collision told me the frame was fine. I bought a used Hitch Bumper combo for $100. Good Luck!

Where did you find the Hitch Bumper combo so cheap? How did you get the $2800 instead of Caliber getting it directly?

    So. Many. Stickers.
just get an RCI rear bumper. Skip the collision shop and take the payout yourself :D

Can't get a 4 wheel alignment with a solid rear axle. But any alignment will show thrust angle.

Tell them you want the payout. Insurance will tell you that you can't.

Notify the state department of insurance (state not federal) and wham your insurance will pay out ASAP.

I had to deal with the other guys insurance. They instructed me to take the truck to the Caliber Collision. They did the inspection and it came out to $2800. Also his insurance promised me a rental car but enterprise refused me. His insurance gave me the money for that as well, included in the $2800. Caliber said my frame was not bent. The guys insurance company mailed me a check. It took two month in total but only two days at Caliber without the truck. I got the Hitch up here on the market place. I had to drive an hour there and an hour home but for $100 it was worth it. I sanded and repainted the bumper. My old bumper was pretty rusty but because the frame replacement I was able to get the bolts into the frame to free up. It was a pain thou. Good Luck!

If you're near me I have a bumper and hitch just sitting around. Both in good shape. I'm outside Sacramento, CA
