Brand new 2022 Tacoma Off-road. Had it for 1 week and the garage door shut automatically while I was pulling out! :( Luckily it only hit the shark fin antenna and then began reversing. However since I was in the process of pulling out, it put a strain in the rear direction and ever so slightly pushed the back down. I'm now worried about leaks from rain, snow, etc. Most people I've shown have looked and told me not to worry about it. They've said the seal is inside and it shouldn't leak. Here are some pictures, but you won't be able to see much. I took rubbing compound and cleaned up the scratched plastic antenna.

What are your thoughts? Does anyone have pictures of what it looks like under the antenna? I've looked around on this site and watched youtube videos (when someone was replacing or deleting), but it is hard to see the seal situation in the pictures/videos I have found.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Doesn't look bad. Get some children or drinking buddies and run her through the local carwash.

My Sequoia had damage and it never leaked. It was much worse, of course I didn't realize it when I bought it,,,,, used :annoyed:

The pics are not good enough to tell. With someone's help, shine a light at the level of the roof and see if you can see light from the other side.

I don't know if it is just a plain rubber seal or a gasket with adhesive. The brake light uses a gasket with adhesive. If it is a plain rubber seal, I would worry.

Note that the 2020+ Tacos have the Connected Services antenna in the fin also. It is a much more expensive part these days.

    I'd like that someday.

Doesn't work for the 2020+ though.

Take it to the dealer, my radio is working funny and the antenna thingy feels loose. Play dumb let them mess with it.

    Is it Friday?

If it leaks in the future it's under warranty. It's not really damaged in appearance, I doubt a dealer would even ask questions.

I disagree. The dealer would classify it as abuse.

    There is a dent here:

Squirt it with the hose. If it leaks, call your insurance and take it to the dealer. Stuff happens!!

Hey, I just washed my new truck for the first time while standing in the bed and I noticed a little dent in the roof! This must have gotten bumped in transport or something, can you fix it? Not saying it's ethical but I've seen people get whole new seats because they spilled coffee on them under warranty no questions asked. I've always had friendly dealerships I guess.

It does have a plain rubber seal, FYI.

Friendly goes a long way. From many other warranty experiences that get posted around here, I would not hold my breath though.

Thank you for all the feedback. The mount is still flush with the top of the truck all around. No light can be seen from one side to the other. When pouring water over the area a tiny amount pools behind the antenna where there is a tiny (almost unnoticeable) dent.

You have too much faith in dealerships my friend. I have seen them try and weasel their way out paying for legitimate things, not considering there is actual evidence here.

Be honest, suck it up. If it leaks then get it fixed. You may get by with it but it will come back and bite you in the ass. Do things right, don't lie and you will be better off.

    Good luck!

Keep an eye out for fogging on the rear window when it rains.
